Gold Award (continued from page 3) “I know this doesn’t happen by chance,” Council Member Ari Bernstein agreed, thanking the police, volunteer fire department, ambulance corps and, in particular, the road department members for their responsible attitudes and excellent attendance at safety meetings. Just how good Allendale’s record was surprised even the council members. Caughlin said the borough had received a perfect score, with no accidents reported in 2011. “I didn’t realize it was zero. I knew it was great, but I didn’t know it was that great,” Mayor Barra said. Borough Administrative Officer Gwen McCarthy said Safety Director Jeff Picinich, who is also superintendent of the Allendale Water Department, also deserved a great deal of the credit for his work in advancing Allendale from the previous Silver Award to the top-flight Gold Award.
