The Woman’s Club of Ridgewood recently hosted of the Ramapo District of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs’ Fall Conference. Jill Passaretti, first vice president of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs, officiated at the meeting, which included 35 members representing Ramapo District Clubs. At the meeting, the Ridgewood organization received special recognition for several programs. The club was recognized for its successful 201112 fundraising efforts,which allowed the organization to donate over $35,000, food, toiletries, and clothing to charities. In addition, the club’s Scholarship Trust Fund awarded $45,500 to 22 graduates of Ridgewood High School. The club was also recognized for its promotion of domestic violence awareness, its extraordinary membership recruitment, and its support of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Club’s special state project Gilda’s Club, a support organization for people with cancer and their families. The Woman’s Club of Ridgewood is a 501C3 organization for women age 18 and over and always welcomes new members. Among its many activities, the club hosts monthly luncheons/socials, sponsors of Meals on Wheels, raises funds for local charities, and hosts the annual House Tour and Children’s Theater. The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
Basketball players wanted
Ridgewood Biddy Basketball registration is now open and may be completed online at www.ridgesports.org. This program is available to girls and boys in grade three through high school. A clinic for special needs children is also being offered. The registration deadline is Sept. 20. After that date, a $50 late fee per child is applied. Registered lobbyist Sandra Matsen (pictured above) will address the League of Women Voters of Ridgewood at the league’s Annual Fall Luncheon set for Wednesday, Oct. 3. The luncheon will be held at noon at the Old Paramus Reformed Church, 660 East Glen Avenue in Ridgewood. Matsen, who is affiliated with the League of Women Voters of New Jersey, will discuss the realities of getting legislation passed in Trenton and how individuals and league members can make a difference. She will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of lobbyists from her personal perspective, and will present a brief overview of the public question on the 2012 ballot.
