Acclaimed baking expert Carole Walter, CCP, will discuss the art of holiday baking, and various techniques, at Temple Israel of Ridgewood. The program will be held Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 8 p.m., as Temple Israel’s Sisterhood celebrates the ancient Jewish harvest festival of Sukkot. tor, and consultant is a seasoned, creative, and accomplished baking and food professional who specializes in American and European cakes, cookies, pastries, pies, desserts, and breads. Her in-depth studies include work with renowned chefs in Austria, Denmark, France, Italy, and the United States. Her extensive background includes authoring four major cookbooks. Her most recent work, “Great Coffee Cakes, Sticky Buns, Muffins, and More” (2007) was selected as one of 11 “notable titles of 2007” by Anne Mendelson of “The New York Times” and was named one of the “25 noteworthy cookbooks published in 2007” in the holiday book issue of The Times. “Great Cookies” won the 2004 International Association of Culinary Professionals Cookbook Award in the breads, other baking, and sweets category. “Great Pies & Tarts” was a finalist of the IACP Cookbook Award in the breads and sweets category in 1999. “Great Cakes” earned the 1992 James Beard Foundation’s Best Baking and Dessert Cookbook designation. Walter has had 30 years of teaching experience, specializing in technique and hands-on classes. She has taught at notable cooking schools in the metropolitan area and throughout the United States, including The New York Culinary Arts Center, The Institute of Culinary Education, The James Beard Foundation Workshop Series, Sur la Table Culinary Schools, Kings Cooking Studios (where she developed the Mastery of Baking Diploma Series), and the World Pastry Forum. She has appeared on Sara Moulton’s, “Cooking Live,” Fox 5 Midday News, and “Good Morning America.” She also was a regular guest on Arthur Schwartz’s WORAM Radio “Food Talk.” Walter is a Certified Culinary Professional and charter member of the IACP with 15 years of service to culinary scholarships.
