Ridgewood September 26, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 3 Board considers proposal for apartment building by John Koster The Ridgewood Planning Board has just received a revised proposal for a zoning change that would pave the way for K&K Developers of Short Hills to construct the Dayton Apartments, a 106unit four story apartment building. The subject property is the Brogan Cadillac site on North Broad Street. The board anticipates many questions at the upcoming Oct. 16 hearing, including the potential traffic impact of a new building. Several small businesses, including restaurants and boutiques, are also located on North Broad near its intersection with Ridgewood Avenue. The proposed building shown in architectural plans by Appel Design of Union shows a maximum height of 65 feet. The building, which would cover most of the Brogan lot, would be 474 feet by 220 feet. The peaked roofs and half-timbered Tudor design, which originated in northern Europe during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, would harmonize with a number of other buildings, many of them considered historic, in Ridgewood’s downtown shopping district. The building would consist of a groundfloor parking garage for 166 vehicles, with 21 street spaces available on North Broad Street, and four floors of apartment units. An independent and detailed study by Ridgewood’s professional planner, Blaise Brancheau, considers all aspects of additional multi-family housing in Ridgewood. Brancheau’s study was filed with the Ridgewood Planning Board on the same day the plans for the Dayton Apartments arrived. The report, which was not focused specifically on the Dayton Apartments, but on multi-housing units in general, noted: (continued on page 11)
