OLMC MOMs group to meet The Ridgewood Our Lady of Mount Carmel MOMs group will meet Sept. 12 at 9:15 a.m. in the parish center located at 1 Passaic Street in Ridgewood. Women of all ages and faiths are welcome. Child care is provided during meetings. RSVP to childcare@olmcmoms.org. In addition to monthly meetings, the group also hosts discussions, a book club, recipe club, tennis, playgroups, yoga, faith sharing, and more. Bereavement support group forming The parishes of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Ridgewood, Saint Gabriel in Saddle River, and Saint Catharine in Glen Rock are jointly sponsoring a Bereavement Support Group. The group will meet on Thursdays beginning Sept. 13 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, One Passaic Street in Ridgewood. The meeting will offer support for those at the beginning stages of the grief process. The group stresses confidentiality and mutual support. The program is open to all. Employment workshop scheduled Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church’s Career Resources Ministry, in its continuing effort to provide help to people seeking employment, will present the first of a four-part series of workshops on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. The workshop will be held in the meeting room in the lower church and is open to anyone seeking employment and those who anticipate possible unemployment. Parish membership is not required. Workshops are presented by the Career Resources Ministry, whose members are dedicated to helping those seeking employment. Professionals in the field will present the workshop and will be on hand to give advice. This workshop topic is “Create Your Communications Strategy and Resume.” Participants should bring a recent resume or job experience information. All are welcome. Chamber sets Fall Car Show The Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce will present the 19th Annual Fall Car Show on Friday, Sept. 7. The event, which will be open from 6 to 9 p.m., will be held around Memorial Park at Van Neste Square and on East Ridgewood Avenue.
The show will include a variety of autos, from muscle cars and hot rods to current and unique models. A live band will perform at this event. Registration for the show is under way. HILT plans events Highlights in Leisure Time’s Patio Picnic has been set for Sept. 13 at Ridgewood Village Hall, 131 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. This event is for members only. A boxed lunch will be provided to members who sign up at the Stable by Sept. 5. Entertainment will be provided by Dr. Dubious and the Agnostics, a Dixieland band, between noon and 1 p.m. In case of rain, the event will be moved into the Community Center/Anne Zusy Youth Center. On Sept. 20, the group will travel to the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms, a National Historic Landmark in Parsippany. Attendees will tour the 1911 home of Gustav Stickley, one of the patriarchs of the American Arts and Crafts movement. Stickley is known for his popular furniture designs, sometimes called “Mission Style.” This museum has been voted one of the best heritage sites to visit in New Jersey. Please note that this trip includes walking and stair climbing. Lunch will follow at the nearby Tabor Road Tavern. The cost is $48 for HILT members and $53 for non-members. Ridgewood residents who are 55 and older are invited to join Highlights in Leisure Time, a senior organization under the auspices of the Ridgewood Department of Parks & Recreation. Monthly meetings include entertainment and informational presentations followed by refreshments, and a variety of monthly trips. Annual membership dues are $15. Fall tennis instruction available Village residents are invited to tale fall tennis lessons at the Bellair Courts. These classes are offered by the Ridgewood Parks and Recreation Department. Youth participants may choose from Thursday or Friday classes, which begin Sept. 6 and 7. Sessions will meet as follows: Children in first and second grade, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; students in third and fourth grades, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.; students in fifth and sixth grades; and those in grade seven and up from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Adult classes will be held on Fridays beginning Sept. 7. Sessions will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. or from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The fee for each six-week session is $115. All rain cancellations will be made up. Male voices sought for chorus The Orpheus Club Men’s Chorus will begin rehearsals on Sept. 5 and invites all men who like to sing to join one of New Jersey’s oldest and best musical groups. The Orpheus Club Men’s Chorus meets each Wednesday at 8 p.m. at The Cupola (Care One) on East Ridgewood Avenue in Paramus. Founded in 1909, the chorus presents concerts featuring a wide variety of music including classics, pop tunes, oldies, music from Broadway shows, and novelty tunes. Concerts are presented in December and April at the United Methodist Church in Ridgewood. The group also sings at other events in northern New Jersey. Formal musical training is not needed for membership in this chorus. Auditions are not required, although members are occasionally tested to see which part or musical selection is most appropriate for their skills. KinderKickers players wanted Registration is now open for 2012 Fall KinderKickers, an introductory soccer program for Ridgewood boys and girls, ages four and five, who are in preschool and kindergarten. Coordinated by the Ridgewood Soccer Association, the program acquaints children with basic soccer skills while emphasizing the enjoyable aspects of the game. Weekly sessions introduce soccer-oriented games and teach basic soccer skills in a non-competitive environment. The program is led by professional trainers, who focus on having fun and promoting physical fitness. The program will be held on eight Saturdays beginning Sept. 8. Schedules with starting times will be posted on the Ridgewood Soccer Association website after Labor Day. The cost is $100 per player and includes an official team jersey and soccer ball. Attendees should wear shin guards, sneakers or cleats, which are available for purchase at most local sporting goods stores. Participants should also bring a water bottle to each session. KinderKickers, jointly sponsored by Ridgewood Soccer Association and the Maroons Soccer Club, is coordinated each fall by the Ridgewood Soccer Association and presented each spring by the Maroons Soccer Club. The Ridgewood Soccer Association also offers programs for players in grades one through 12, and special needs sessions for children ages five through 14. Late registrations are now being accepted.
