The Glen Rock Borough Council has introduced a new parking ordinance that would expressly forbid all-night parking at lots associated with borough parks and would reinforce the special status of handicapped parking. The ordinance, introduced without controversy on Oct. 24, is scheduled for its adoption hearing on Nov. 7. The ordinance would control parking in designated borough lots at Wilde Memorial Park, located off Maple Avenue; Faber Field, including the recycling area; and the swimming pool parking lot on Doremus Avenue, which also serves the Glen Rock Arboretum, the park that serves

as a living tree museum. The ordinance would require that all cars be parked within the lined spaces, and would prohibit parking between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. Parking at all other times would be limited to passenger cars, in effect eliminating use of the lot for contractors’ work vehicles. The proposed ordinance would also designate two handicapped spaces at Wilde Memorial Park on Maple Avenue, two at the swimming pool lot, and seven spaces at the recycling area lot on Doremus Avenue. The handicapped spaces would be marked with special paint, and parking by drivers
who are not handicapped would leave them open to maximum fines up to $1,000 and/or 90 days of community service. The ordinance suggests that the maximum fine and community service are not mandatory, but may be applied at the discretion of the magistrate. In other business, the Glen Rock Council adopted a bonding ordinance for $525,000 to cover the cost of a state-mandated upgrade of emergency communications radio equipment used by police officers and firefighters. Ridgewood has adopted a similar bond. J. KOSTER
The volunteers at Glen Rock Television now have live video capabilities that were recently used to broadcast the Oct. 20 homecoming football game live on Channel 32 FiOS and on Cablevision Channel 77. “Thanks to the tireless efforts of Hal Knapp who worked through the afternoon and evening on Saturday over at borough hall, we were able to perform our very first Live GRTV video broadcast,” said Director of Programming Ted Burke. “It was just a few minutes of my son jumping around and panning shots of my living room and driveway; but it worked!” The experiment meant that the crew could attempt a single camera broadcast of the homecoming game. The effort was a success. Over the last several years, GRTV has brought the community a wide variety of programming, from coverage of local meetings, parades, sporting events, artistic photograph montages, plays, and musical events like the Glen Rock Pops and Fine Tuners of New Jersey. The public service that the GRTV volunteers bring to this community is unique to Glen Rock. Some are video or audio professionals who donate their time, others are students gaining valuable experience for college, and others are Glen Rock residents who enjoy bringing this service to the community. Glen Rock TV can also be found on the Internet at www.glenrocktv.com, Facebook, and Twitter: “glenrocktv.” GRTV is a 24-hour independent public access not-forprofit channel and is staffed solely by volunteer residents of Glen Rock. Monthly meetings are held on the at borough hall. To volunteer or underwrite programming, send an e-mail to grtv@glenrocknj.net.

A penny for your thoughts...
The Activities Club’s coin collecting group recently visited the mint in Philadelphia to get a firsthand look at the minting of the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter coins. The mint offers comprehensive tours and provided the club with many facts and figures on the current and historical activities of the mint and minting process in Philadelphia. After the tour, the group visited and had lunch at the historic Reading Terminal Market. The market features many ethnic shops and eateries. The Activities Club is a group of retired and semi-retired men, and offers its members 23 activities. Activities include social, athletic, educational, scientific, and volunteer pursuits.
