Three candidates vying for two council seats
by John Koster Glen Rock voters will have the opportunity to select their representatives to the borough council on Nov. 6. Carmine Nogara, a Republican, and Joan Orseck, a Republican who first ran and was elected as a Democrat, will face off against Democratic candidate Howard Fox in a two-seat contest. Fox is an associate director in management information systems at a health service company, and has operated various online businesses since 2000. Fox has an MBA in finance and investments from Baruch College and a BS degree in business administration from the State University of New York at Albany. He has been active with the New Jersey Special Olympics and Literacy Volunteers. He has also served as a volunteer on the Glen Rock Technology Committee. He and his wife, a licensed clinical psychologist, have three small children. They moved to Glen Rock in 2006. Fox previously ran with Democratic council veteran Mark McCullough, who had been elected to one term, but was not re-elected. At the 2011 Candidates Night, Fox spoke about the need for better electronic communications in Glen Rock and better control of information to the public. Nogara, the current council president, is serving his third term. He has lived in Glen Rock for 14 years, coaches sports, and conducts chess tournaments at the Glen Rock Public Library. Nogara is a full-time professor of accounting at St. Francis College, and holds a doctorate in accounting from Pace University and an MBA from St. John’s University. He is also a CPA. He has served as a president and treasurer of the Glen Rock Volunteer Fire Department, of which he is a member. Orseck has lived in Glen Rock for 38 years and has been a member of the Glen Rock Council for six years. She served
as council president in 2009. She is a former president of the Byrd School PTA, the Federated PTA, Glen Rock Youth Guidance Council, United Scholarships Funds, and Friends of the Library. An RN and nurse instructor, Orseck is a senior nursing recruiter at Hackensack University Medical Center. She has been a member of Glen Rock GREEN, the board of health, DARE, and a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, and a member of the Glen Rock Art Council and the Glen Rock Community School Guidance Council. She has been active in both junior football and soccer as a coach. “We each bring a different expertise to the council and we realize there is much more to be done,” the two Republican candidates said in a joint statement. “Excellence has no finish line, but we will continue to try and reach it.”
