Nursery school sets events The Cooperative Nursery School of Ridgewood will hold an Open House on Wednesday Oct. 24 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The school is located at 100 Dayton Street. The school offers a variety of classes and extended day programs. Morning and afternoon sessions are available. The co-op is organized and run by parents, allowing the parents to participate in their child’s early learning experience. Programs include music, physical education, field trips, and indoor and outdoor play time. The school also has an in-house library. On Nov. 8, the school will sponsor at Movie Day at the Clearview Warner Quad, 190 East Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood. The featured movies are “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” or “Dolphin Tale.” Both movies begin at 10 a.m. The cost for tickets is $8. Children under two will be admitted free. Peace activists to discuss budget The Unitarian Society of Ridgewood will host a program on peace and justice with noted speakers Madelyn Hoffman of New Jersey Peace Action and Guido Girgenti of 99Rise on Friday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Hoffman, executive director of New Jersey Peace Action, will discuss “Move the Money,” a campaign to shrink the Pentagon’s budget and use the savings to promote peace and justice. Peace Action, whose national office is in Silver Spring, Maryland, is the nation’s largest grassroots network of peace activists. It was founded as SANE (later SANE/Freeze) in 1957. Peace Action seeks to bring an end to weapons trafficking, encourage non-military solutions to international conflicts, and promote conflict resolution at all levels. Girgenti is East Coast Organizing Coordinator for 99Rise, a new nationwide movement seeking to get “big money” out of American politics and reclaim America’s democracy for the 99 percent. As an Occidental College student, Girgenti has been active in student and racial justice organizing. The event is free, and reservations are not required. Refreshments will be served. Bennett will hold an in-store fashion event and champagne reception at The Shops at Riverside in Hackensack on Thursday, Oct. 25. Hours will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. On display will be the company’s collection of dresses, shoes, and handbags
that can be seen worn by Kate Middleton, The Duchess of Cambridge. A percentage of the sales from this event will benefit the auxiliary’s pledge to raise $1.5 million for the expansion of the Valley Hospital Breast Surgery Program and to support Valley Home Care’s Butterflies Program, a palliative and hospice care program for children. Programs for adults offered Ridgewood Parks and Recreation has announced its schedule of fall classes for adults and seniors. The following classes will meet at the Stable: Acrylic Painting with Sandi will be offered in two sessions: Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. and Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. The Tuesday class will begin Nov. 6, and the Thursday session will start Nov. 1. The fee is $80 for the six-week class. Materials are additional. A list will be provided on the first day. Adult Watercolors will meet on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. beginning Nov. 14. The fee is $95 for the sixweek session. Materials are additional; a supply list will be provided at registration. The Lunch and Learn Series will present “Healthy Gourmet” on Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. beginning Nov. 13. The course will be led by Christine M. Okezie, a natural foods chef and certified holistic health coach. Participants will learn how proper nutrition provides energy, good digestive health, and weight control. The class will share light nutritional lunches each week. The fee is $95 for the five-week session. The following classes for seniors will be held at the Community Center at 131 North Maple Avenue. Classes are $24 for the six-week sessions. Senior offerings include: Zumba, which will be held on Mondays from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. beginning Nov. 12. Latin and international music combine to form a fun and effective dance and fitness workout system. Silver Strength and Motion will meet on Tuesdays from 10 to 10:45 a.m. beginning Nov. 6, and Fridays from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. beginning Nov. 9. Participants will work at their own pace to improve agility, strength, memory, hand/ eye coordination, flexibility, and balance. Those who attend Mindful Meditation on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to noon will learn how meditation positively affects the brain, health, focus, creativity, equanimity, relationships, happiness, and peace. This class will begin Nov. 13.

Seniors may improve strength, muscle growth, endurance, health, and lifestyle with expert exercise, fitness, and guidance. Learn the Art of Chinese Brush Painting on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. beginning Nov. 14. Jazzercise will be offered on Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. beginning Nov. 7. Participants will enhance cardiovascular endurance, physical strength, flexibility, and balance. Chair Yoga, a gentle and rejuvenating class incorporating breathing, movement, and visualization exercises will be offered on Wednesdays, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. beginning Nov. 14.
