Graduation Ball 2013 benefit under way The Glen Rock High School Class of 2013 is selling tickets for its cash prize contest to benefit Graduation Ball 2013. The contest winner will be announced at the Grad Ball Beefsteak on Nov. 17. Last year’s grand prize was $8,250. Take a ‘Haunted Cruise to Nowhere’ The Fifth Grade Class of 2013 at the Central School in Glen Rock, will host a “Haunted Cruise to Nowhere” on Oct. 26 and 27 from 6 to 9 p.m. The nautical adventure will bring thrills and chills to all who climb aboard the ship searching for what participants hope, is not their last port of call! The event will be held in the school gymnasium located at 600 South Maple Avenue. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door. Proceeds will benefit fifth grade activities. Advisory group to meet The Senior Citizen Advisory Committee of Glen Rock will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 1:30 p.m. at the municipal building located at Harding Plaza. Local florist to address gardeners Local florist Walter Perry will present “Downy Mildew of Impatiens: What Next?” to the Glen Rock Garden Club on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7:45 p.m. The group will meet at the
Glen Rock Municipal Annex at 678 Maple Avenue. At the meeting, Perry will also award two $25 gift certificates. This free program is open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call (201) 447-6099. Friends to sponsor multiple programs The Friends of the Glen Rock Library will host a variety of programs for patrons this fall. The programs are held at the Glen Rock Library, 315 Rock Road and begin at 7 p.m. Author Pamela Redmond Satran will read from and discuss her new novel, “The Possibility of You,” on Oct. 3. Satran is a columnist for Glamour magazine and lives in Montclair with her family. Her new novel features three women at three key moments of the last century as they dealing with changing pressures and timeless choices. Copies of the book are available at the library. No registration is necessary. On Oct. 10, Toni Dinofrio, MBA and career coach, will help college students, graduates, and their families improve their job seeking skills in “Stand Out from Other Job Candidates!” Dinofrio will offer advice on writing a terrific resume, improving interview skills, crafting the perfect cover letter, and creating a personal “brand.” Registration is required, and may be completed in person or by calling the library at (201) 670-3970. Authors Richard Muti and Charles Buckley will discuss their true crime story “The Charmer” on Wednesday, Oct. 17. Former prosecutors, Muti and Buckley, discuss their account of Robert Reldan, rapist, murderer, and millionaire. The authors will be available to sign copies of their book afterward. ESL and computer classes available The Glen Rock Public Library’s ESL (English as a Second Language) conversation groups will meet every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. beginning Oct. 3. Registration is not required, but participants should have basic English speaking ability. The library has planned a fall lineup of technology classes. Classes meet from 7 to 8 p.m., and registration may
be completed by calling the library at (201) 670-3970. The following classes will be offered: Oct. 10, Internet and PC Basics; Oct. 24, Microsoft Word; Nov. 14, Excel; Nov. 28, PowerPoint; and Dec. 12, eReaders. The knitting group meets every Wednesday at 1 p.m. Anyone who is interested may drop by. The library is located at 315 Rock Road. Library seeks residents’ input The Glen Rock Public Library is seeking assistance from residents for its strategic planning. Seniors plan events The Saint Catharine Association of Mature Parishioners will attend an Italian Festival at the Royal Manor in Garfield on Thursday, Oct. 11. On Nov. 1, the seniors will hold a Day of Recollection in the community hall of the church, located at 905 Maple Avenue. The program will begin 11 a.m. RSVP to Mary at (201) 791-3812. Sunday school classes offered The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Sunday School has begun. Children in pre-K through third grade attend children’s choir practice from 9:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. From 10 a.m. to 10:25 a.m., they attend Sunday school. Children must be three years old by Oct. 1 to attend.
