Thomas Patrick Gainey of Wayne, formerly of Ridgewood, died Sept. 21. He was 86. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He is a graduate of University of Rochester, where he earned a degree in accounting. He was a corporate controller in New York City for 35 years. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Ridgewood. He is survived by his wife Helen Marie (nee: Mellberg), his children Jeffrey Leo Gainey of South Bend, Indiana, Christine Ann Gainey of Ridgewood, Rosemary Gainey of Wayne, and Barry James Gainey of Ridgewood, six grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his siblings Jack, Joseph (Bucky), Anna, and Mary. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Ruth L. Goldring of Franklin Lakes died Sept. 21. She was 85. She is survived by her husband Stanley Goldring. Bernhard Christian Frederick Klein of Midland Park died Sept. 25. He was 85. He was born in Leeuwarden, Netherlands. He began working in the machine shop at Marlow Pumps in Midland Park in 1954. He retired in 1990 as the accountant of purchasing. After retiring, he worked at Aviation International News in Midland Park. He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of Midland Park for over 50 years. He is survived by his children John Klein of Eaton, New York, Joan Dobutovich of Oak Ridge, and Eric Klein of Midland Park, and 10 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Jane (nee Minkema). Mae Moezelaar of Wyckoff died Sept. 26. She was 92. Before retiring, she was a legal secretary with at De Yoe, De Yoe, and Guiney in Paterson. She was a member of Unity Christian Reformed Church in Prospect Park. She was an organist for 60 years, and served as the accompanist for the Apollo Glee Club, Back to God Hour, and Eastern Academy Choir. She was a member of Eastern Christian High School Ladies’ Circle, the North Fourth Street School Ladies’ Aid, and a volunteer at the Christian Health Care Center. She is survived by her daughters Dorothy Faasse of North Haledon, Trena Swart of Poughkeepsie, New York, and Janice Van Grouw of Midland Park, 14 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Evelyn Huizing and Dr. Peter Pousma De Boer, both of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and her sister-in-law Lillian De Boer of North Haledon. Nancy Jean Roughgarden of Wyckoff, formerly of Palm Springs, California, North Haledon, and Hawthorne, died Sept. 21. She was 76. She was employed as the outpatient supervisor and physical therapist for Eisenhower Medical Center in Palm Springs, California for five years. Previously, she was employed with the Kessler Institute in Orange. She is survived by her sister Betsy Patterson and her brother-in law Edgar of North Haledon, her nieces and nephews Scott Patterson of Greenville, New York, Dr. Todd Patterson of Walnutport, Pennsylvania, Dr. Tara Patterson of The Woodlands, Texas, Andrew Roughgarden of Waldwick, Tracy Roughgarden of Hawthorne, and Leslie Blanchard of Waldwick, and seven great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas Roughgarden. Arrangements were made by Browning Forshay Funeral Home in Hawthorne. Nicholas M. Savino of Mahwah died Sept. 22. He was 79. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He graduated from Fordham University and was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge 1941 in Mahwah, VFW Post 7124 and American Legion Post 0174. He was a certified tax assessor and a New Jersey licensed public accountant. He served as a legislative aid to State Senator Garrett Hagedorn. He was a member of the Mahwah Zoning Board for over 40 years, and president of the Mahwah Republican Club. He served as the chief financial officer of Mahwah from 1973-78, and was chairman of the Revaluation Committee 1974-75. Before retiring, he was the corporate tax manager of American Cyanamid. He was on the sewer assessment board in 1982 and the I287 Committee 1983-84. He is survived by his wife Geraldine Savino (nee Burgio), his children Lynn M. Savino of Mahwah, Dona Savino of Suffern, New York, and William J. Savino of Mahwah, one grandchild, his sister Michelle Caron, brother and sisters-in-law Jay and Sue Burgio and Elizabeth Hansen, and seven nieces and nephews. Schulze of Montville, formerly of Mahwah, died Sept. 14. He was 73. He graduated from Hackensack High School in 1959 and attended New York University. He entered the emerging field of computer technology and worked in high-tech for the majority of his career. He retired from Electronic Data Systems in 1996. He is survived by his brother Paul J. and sister-in-law Christine Schulze of Ramsey, and his sister-in-law Ruth Schulze of Naples, Florida, and two generations of nieces and nephews. He

Michael Valmoro of Mahwah died Sept. 21. He was 74. He was a teacher of English and Shakespeare at Teaneck High School for 38 years. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 96 East Allendale Road in Saddle River. Jane Patricia Van Tassel of Ridgewood died Sept. 22. She was 83. She attended Saint Luke’s School in Ho-HoKus, and the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, New York. She was a reporter for TIME, Sports Illustrated, Forbes, and Life magazines during her professional tenure with Time Inc. in New York City. She retired as head of the business and economy section of TIME. She was a volunteer and board member for a number of organizations in Ridgewood, including the Woman’s Club of Ridgewood, the College Club of Ridgewood, the Valley Hospital Auxiliary, and the Rosary Altar Society. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Ridgewood. She was a member of the Ridgewood Country Club, where she served as a committee chairperson. She is survived by her children Maryon Van Tassel-Clark of Ridgewood, Patricia Van Tassel-Cromie of Allendale, and James Van Tassel of Ridgewood, 12 grandchildren, and her brother Tom Farley of Upper Saddle River. She was predeceased by her husband the Honorable Edward J. Van Tassel, her son Edward, and her sister Maryon Maher. Arrangements were made by C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Carole Anne Wiley of Mahwah died. She was 74. Before retiring, she was the zoning official for the Township of Mahwah for 25 years. After retiring, she continued to work part-time for the building department. She was a 30-year member of the Mahwah Ambulance & Rescue Squad Company 1. She is survived by her children Jeff Wiley of Bayside, Maine, Meridith Magner of Mahwah, and Karen Wiley of Pasadena, Texas, seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and her sister Virginia Jones of Elliott, Iowa. She was predeceased by her parents Mildred and Raymond Ryan, and her sister Janet Strysko. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey.
