October 3, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 13 Ridgewood Notes HILT to host cartoonist Nationally syndicated editorial cartoonist Jimmy Margulies will address the members of Highlights In Leisure Time, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11. The group will meet in the auditorium of the Ridgewood Public Library at 125 North Maple Avenue. Margulies’ presentation will feature stories of cartoons, and on-the-spot caricatures. His work appears in “The Record,” “The New York Times,” “USA Today” and is distributed nationally to over 425 other publications. On Oct. 18, HILT will travel to Ehrhardt’s Waterfront Resort in Hawley, Pennsylvania for a German Festival at noon. The day will include a welcome coffee and streusel cake, a cake-making demonstration, lunch, a show, music, and entertainment. The cost is $45 for HILT members and $50 for nonmembers. Middle school mixers announced Ridgewood Parks and Recreation, with sponsorship from the New Jersey Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, will offer social mixers that include students from both district middle schools. Each evening will include music and dancing with DJ Sound Illusion, refreshments, and games. The program is open to village teens only, and an $8 donation, payable at the door, is requested. An Oct. 12 mixer is planned for sixth grade students; a seventh and eighth grade evening is planned for Nov. 2. Both mixers will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Anne Zusy Youth Center at 131 North Maple Avenue. Adult chaperones are needed. Contact the recreation department at (201) 670-5560 to volunteer. Kindergarten enrichment available Bethlehem Early Learning Center, located at 155 Linwood Avenue in Ridgewood, has openings in its morning and afternoon Kindergarten Plus program. This enrichment program is designed for five- and six-year-olds who are in kindergarten. Children are encouraged to explore their community, nature, science, and art. The program includes walking trips, arts and crafts, cooking, and science. Every day will include time for physical activities in a full-size gym or outside on the playground. Fall Family Festival set Ridgewood’s Annual Fabulous Fall Family Festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Graydon Pool parking lot located at 259 North Maple Avenue. (Rain date: Oct. 13.) This free event, sponsored by the Cooperative Nursery School at Ridgewood, will feature over 50 quality exhibitors, food, kiddie and pony rides, and exhibits by local merchants and civic organizations. Metzger to address OLMC MOMs Clinical social worker and therapist Paula Metzger, MSW, LCSW will present “Reconnecting with Your Spouse” to the Ridgewood Our Lady of Mount Carmel MOMs group on Oct. 3. The program will be held in the parish center at 1 Passaic Street at 9:15 a.m. Moms of all faiths and ages are welcome. Impressionists to be discussed Guest speaker Bart D’Andrea will discuss the impressionist painters at the Oct. 10 luncheon of The Woman’s Club of Ridgewood. The program will be held at clubhouse at 215 West Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood. D’Andrea’s presentation will include a slide show and discussion of these painters, who were considered radical in their day. Items may be dropped off at the clubhouse Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Woman’s Club of Ridgewood, a nonprofit organization and member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and The New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs, is dedicated to serving the community and supporting women, children, and the elderly. The club always welcomes new members age 18 and older who live within a 19-mile radius of Ridgewood. Rides to church offered Our Lady of Mount Carmel R.C. Church in Ridgewood has begun a new ministry to assist parishioners in need of a ride to the 11 a.m. Sunday liturgy.
