Page 6 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • November 21, 2012 Ridgewood The Ridgewood Village Council has approved $1,027,000 in emergency appropriations necessitated by Hurricane Sandy. The action was taken at a special public meeting convened late last week. Ridgewood Village Manager Ken Gabbert said he hopes to get all but $300,000 back from the Federal Emergency Management Association. “Most of it will be taken care of by FEMA?” Mayor Paul Aronsohn asked before the unanimous vote. Village approves funds for storm-related repairs “The bottom line is a $300,000 hit after FEMA makes its reimbursement,” Gabbert said late last week. The village manager said as the council was voting on the morning of Nov. 16, that the vast majority of Ridgewood households once again have electrical power. Some households experienced losses of electricity and land-line telephones for almost two weeks following the Oct. 29 hurricane. Some had no power loss at all, but the average outage appeared to have lasted about a week. “I think we’ve got a couple of areas where hundreds and hundreds of people are without Verizon and Cablevision,” Gabbert added. The manager added that Ridgewood’s emergency workers had done excellent work -- “John Spano was phenomenal!” -- but that toward the end of the power restoration process, the work crews were so exhausted that four vehicular accidents had taken place, two of them apparently due to worker fatigue and the other two due to motorists who ignored road barriers or cones. Mayor Aronsohn asked Gabbert if FEMA had finished reimbursement for the Oct. 29, 2011 snowstorm that also led to about a week of electrical failure in most neighborhoods. “I think we’re good,” Gabbert said.
