The book tells the story of how a trusted U.S. Treasury Department official, a graduate of Stanford and Harvard, was actually a Soviet agent of influence who used his knowledge of Japanese economics to foist a war on the United States. GRTB announces new programs GRTV has announced its new programs, which are available on FiOS Channel 32, Cablevision Channel 77, and online at www.glenrockTV.com. The new lineup includes the junior flag football program, the Central School haunted house, and the Halloween Parade hosted by GRTV junior reporter A.J. School hosts Open House The Academy of Our Lady will hold an Open House for its pre-K and kindergarten programs on Thursday, Nov. 29 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. The school will be registering students for 2013-14 classes. Pre-K classes with enrichment options will be available for children ages two through four. Kindergarten options include half-day or full-day sessions. The academic program will include math, reading, religion, computers, library, music, art, physical education, and Spanish. All classes are taught by certified faculty members assisted by full-time aides. Before- and after-care programs are available. Experience Dixieland Jazz at the library Dr. Dubious’ seven-piece band will present a free concert of jazz, blues, stomps, marches, and more at the Glen Rock Public Library on Saturday, Dec. 8. ESL and computer classes available The Glen Rock Public Library’s ESL (English as a Second Language) conversation groups will meet every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Registration is not required, but participants should have basic English speaking ability. The library has planned a fall lineup of technology classes. Classes meet from 7 to 8 p.m., and registration may be completed by calling the library at (201) 670-3970. The following classes will be offered: Nov. 28, PowerPoint; and Dec. 12, eReaders. The knitting group meets every Wednesday at 1 p.m. Anyone who is interested may drop by. Library hosts Game Exchange The ongoing Jigsaw Puzzle Exchange located next to the Paperback Exchange at the front door of the library has proved to be so popular, it has been expanded to include games. Individuals who wish to donate an old board or card game to the Game Exchange may bring it to the library. Anyone can look through the stack of games and puzzles, and take one home or even play it in the library. Note: Staff members cannot guarantee all the pieces will be there. Exhibitors sought The Glen Rock Library is looking for interesting, antique, artistic, whimsical, beautiful, and/or unique collections. The exhibits, which change monthly, are kept in the library’s three display cases. Placards identify the exhibitors. Collectors interested in sharing their cherished objects are invited to call Sally at the library, (201) 670-3970. Knitters meet at library Knitters have been congregating at the Glen Rock Library. People just whip out their projects, (crochet too) and attract other people to discuss projects, yarn and yarn sources. Formal instruction and help with projects with experienced knitters are held every Wednesday afternoon from 1 to 2 p.m. Take advantage of the company and experience, and try a new project. Beginners are welcome. Senior services available Glen Rock senior and/or handicapped residents living alone, who are not capable of carrying their recyclables to the curb for pick-up, can now get help. The DPW will provide them with two covered containers, one for cans and plastic bottles and one for paper and cardboard. On collection days, see borough calendar, the DPW will do a special pick-up from the rear yard and return the containers to their location. Glen Rock maintains a roster of free or discount-priced activities for senior citizens, including bus rides to scheduled shopping trips on the commuter bus, and discount ticket books for taxicab rides. The Senior Citizen Advisory Committee meetings are a focal point where seniors can express their concerns, which are then brought before the Glen Rock Borough Council by Committee Chair Doris Ciaramella. Ciaramella regularly attends the night meeting of the council and advocates senior programs, causes and interests.
