A first-generation American, she was the daughter of immigrants Teresa and Anthony Daino. She was the oldest of eight children and was pressed into full time work at age 13. She is survived by her children Dr. Anthony J. Cipriano and JoAnn Kulesza, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and her sister Grace Jakowlew. She was predeceased by her husband John Cipriano, her daughter Delores, and her brothers Raymond, Eugene, Frank, James, Joseph, and Andrew. Arrangements were made by the Brunswick Memorial Home in East Brunswick. Mary Dabbakian, formerly of Paterson, Clifton, Belmar, and Ridgewood, died Nov. 7. She was 90. She was employed by the New Jersey Department of Labor in the Passaic and Paterson unemployment offices as a senior claims examiner. She earned an associate degree from Thomas Edison College. She was a member of Saint Leon Armenian Church, where she was co-founder of its Sunday School. She sang in the choir, was active in the Women’s Guild, and participated in many aspects of the church community. She is survived by her children Dawn Hourdajian, Robyn Kalajian, and Drew Dabbakian, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and her sisters-in-law Arpie Vartanesian and Zabelle Keil. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He worked as a salesman for various aviation companies, including Van Dusen Aircraft Associates of Teterboro and Cosgrove Aircraft, and was once the recipient of an award from Goodyear for selling the most aircraft tires in the country. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Ho-Ho-Kus. He is survived by his wife Joyce (nee: Shorrock) Dykstra, his children David K. Dykstra of Lusby, Maryland and Karen T. Dykstra-Orr of Ridgewood, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and his sister Dorothy Walsh of San Diego, California. Arrangements were made by Browning-Forshay Funeral Home in Hawthorne. Hughes of Ridgewood, formerly of Waldwick, died Nov. 14. He was 97. During World War II he served with the Red Cross, attached to the 77th Division in the Philippine and Okinawa campaigns. He was a graduate of Clifton High School and Montclair State College, where he earned his BA and MA degrees. He was an avid athlete, running track and playing football and basketball, and earning nine varsity letters and a bronze medal while in college. In 1977, he was accepted into the Montclair State College Hall of Fame. He worked with his father at Hom-Hughes, Co. in New York City, taught the sciences at the high school level, and in 1962 accepted a position at Ridgewood High School teaching physics. He remained at Ridgewood High School until his retirement. He was a past master of the Wyckoff Masonic Lodge 287, District 2, in Wyckoff, and was a Master Mason in good standing. He is survived by his nephew Alexander Starr Hughes III and Barbara Hughes, great-niece Caitlin Duckwall, and greatnephew Darrell Hughes. He was predeceased by his wife Trudi Carduck Hughes, his brother Alexander S. Hughes Jr., and his parents Alexander S. and Agnes L. Hughes. She was born in Berlin, Germany, and was a member of the Methodist Church of Midland Park. She is survived by her daughters JoAnne Teschner, Pat Mateo, Debbie Lawrence, seven grandchildren, and her companion Albert. Arrangements were made by C. C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Joan F. Moran, nee Finnegan, formerly of Boynton Beach, Florida and Ridgewood, died Nov. 13. She was 86. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Ridgewood and Saint Vincent Ferrer, in Delray Beach, Florida. She was a former member of Ridgewood Country Club, and the Quail Ridge Country Club in Boynton Beach, Florida. She is survived by her children Joan, Frank Jr., Douglas, Marybeth Wooters, Paul, and Thomas, 18 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Edward Blake “Blake” Pierce of Ridgewood, formerly of Joseph W. Hughes Wellesley, Massachusetts, died Nov. 12. He was 90. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He received his MA from Middlebury College and returned to France to teach English at Lycee Henri Quatre in Paris. Before retiring in 1986, he spent 38 years with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company as an insurance investigator, claims manager, and later in New York business sales. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood, where he sang with the church choir and with the Cavaliers of Harmony, a barbershop chorus. He was the leader of a barbershop quartet, The Pierce Arrows. He is survived by his wife Elaine (nee: Torbert) Pierce, his sons Edward of Wellesley, Massachusetts, William of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, John of Ridgewood, and Robert of Newton, Massachusetts, his stepchildren Thomas Oakley of Coventry, Connecticut, Bruce Oakley of Whispering Pines, North Carolina, Carol Stanhope of West Milford, eight grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Lillian (nee Gismondi), his daughter Theresa Baldassari, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and his siblings Lucille Barone, Rocco Venezia, Aida Venezia, Peter Venezia, Frank Venezia, and Marie Kelm.
