November 14, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 23 Ridgewood Notes Newcomers set Holiday Boutique The Ridgewood Newcomers will host a Holiday Boutique on Friday, Nov. 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the YWCA of Bergen County, 112 Oak Street in Ridgewood. The event will feature over 20 vendors offering a variety of craft items, including jewelry, clothing, hostess gifts, and more. There is no admission fee. West Side Presbyterian Church presents Christmas Advent-ure West Side Presbyterian Church will usher in the Christmas Season with its Advent-ure set for Saturday, Dec. 1 and Sunday, Dec. 2. The weekend event will feature shopping, singing, eating, and more. All events will take place at the church located at 6 South Monroe Street in Ridgewood. On Saturday, Dec. 1, a Holiday Marketplace will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees may browse arts and crafts at this “indoor street fair.” Coffee and treats will be available. At 7 p.m., The SymphoNYChorus, New York’s premiere symphonic choir and orchestra, will perform a special concert. The suggested donation is $15. On Dec. 2, the Holiday Marketplace will again be open from 9 to 10 a.m. and from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. At 5 p.m., the church will offer a pasta dinner and auction. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. Contest winners will be announced during dessert. Admission to the dinner is $10 per person, or $25 per family. Proceeds will benefit West Side Presbyterian Church’s outreach programs, including an annual youth mission trip and an adult mission to Hope Village, Haiti. Hope Village is home to Free the Kids orphanage, which cares for over 600 abandoned children. Only cash and checks will be accepted. Historian to discuss MacSwiney Neil Cosgrove will address the Irish American Unity Conference, 5th and 9th Chapter on Wednesday, Nov. 14. Cosgrove, a historian for AOH Division 3 in Pearl River, New York, will present a discussion about Terence MacSwiney, Lord Mayor of Cork during the Irish War of Independence in 1920, who died on hunger strike. Cosgrove’s program will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Church located at 105 Cottage Place in Ridgewood. All are welcome. For more information, call (201) 384-7911. Employment workshop scheduled Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church’s Career Resources Ministry, in its continuing effort to provide help to people seeking employment, will present the second of a four-part series of workshops on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. The workshop will be held in the meeting room in the lower church and is open to anyone seeking employment and those who anticipate possible unemployment. Parish membership is not required. Workshops are presented by the Career Resources Ministry, whose members are dedicated to helping those seeking employment. Professionals in the field will present the workshop and will be on hand to give advice. This workshop topic is “Get Your Message Out: Networking.” Participants should bring a recent resume or job experience information.
