She worked as a literary researcher for the “Reader’s Digest” and as an assistant editor for “Holiday Magazine.” She served on the boards of the Volunteer Bureau of Bergen County, The Hermitage, Family Counseling (now Children’s Aid and Family Services), and The Depot. She served on the Vestry of Saint Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church and was an emergency room volunteer at Valley Hospital. She was president of the College Club of Ridgewood from 1979-1981, and founded the College Club Capers. She is survived by her children David Bechtel of Greenwich, Connecticut, Leslie Caruso of Darien, Connecticut, and Barbara Green of Denver, Colorado, and six grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Robert W. Bechtel, and her daughter Priscilla. Arrangements were made by C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home in Ridgewood. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Ridgewood. Concetta Corso, nee Muscarelle, of Wyckoff, formerly of Garfield, died Nov. 3. She was 98. She was a homemaker and a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church. She is survived by her daughters Marilyn Camp, Sadye Melchiorre, and Sandy Obuchowski, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Rocco, her grandson Paul Melchiorre, and her siblings Joseph, Sam, Ralph, and Charles Muscarelle, and Sadie DePalma, and Grace Calendrillo. She was a secretary at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern, and a supporter of Opus Dei. She is survived by her husband John, her children John Eric and Vivian O’Connell, and her siblings Stephen Gillis and Carol Gillis. Arrangements were made by Scarr Funeral Home in Suffern. He was a U.S. National Guard veteran. He had been employed in the advertising department Macy’s in Newark for 30 years. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel R.C. Church in Ridgewood, where he was an usher for 30 years. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Kinnealy Wolfson of Bergenfield, one grandchild, and his brothers Eugene and John. He had a private practice in general surgery and medicine in Wayne for 35 years. He was an attending physician at Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Paterson, Fair Lawn Memorial Hospital, and Wayne General, where he was chief of the surgery department and president of the medical staff. He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He was a member of the Passaic County, New Jersey, and American medical associations. He was a member of the New Jersey Chapter American College of Surgeons. He was the medical director at Andover Subacute and Rehab Center Services, Inc. One and Two. He is survived by his wife Carla Kipiani (née Turco), his children Victor Kipiani, Paul Kipiani, Christopher Kipiani, and Kristine Kipiani, and one grandson. Lia of Allendale, formerly of Hillsdale, died Nov. 5. He was 95. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He is survived by his wife Lucille, his children Gary Lia and Annette Bolyai, seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and his brother Ralph Lia. He was predeceased by his sister Rose LaGratta. Peirsel of Port Orchard, Washington, formerly of Wyckoff, died Sept. 7. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Before retiring, he was a self-employed carpenter and contractor in Wyckoff. She was a participant in the Ramapo Valley Chapter of the Sweet Adelines, and a member of the choir of the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River, where, in her retired years, she was the choir librarian. Phyllis Reiff of Midland Park, formerly of Monroe Township, died Nov. 7. She was 91. She volunteered at Monroe Township Community Center for the Elderly, and crocheted blankets for the Linus Foundation. She is survived by her daughter Marcia Rieff and son-in-law Jonathan, one grandchild, and her brother Gilbert Chalfin. She was predeceased by her husband Paul Phillip Reiff. John F. Wagner of Glen Rock died Nov. 4. He was 82. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He attended Xavier High School and Georgetown University. He worked with his father at Joseph F. Wagner Publishing in New York City, the publishers of Catholic church music, magazines, and books. Following his work in publishing, he worked as a consultant with AT Hudson, and as real estate broker for Weichert Realtors in Glen Rock. He was active at the Saint Catharine’s R.C. Church in Glen Rock. He volunteered with the interfaith homeless network, aiding families in need of food and shelter. A room for homeless families at Saint Catharine’s parish was recently dedicated in his name. He had received many awards, including Catholic Layman of the Year, a listing in the “Catholic Who’s Who,” and awards for his work as a publisher and a Realtor. He is survived by his children Caroline, Paul, John, Mark, Chris, Gregory, and Barbara, 14 grandchildren, and his brother Joseph. He was predeceased by his wife Patrice Coyle Wagner, and his daughter Mary Patricia. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood.
