The award recognizes that the Glen Rock group actively promotes tree canopy preservation, the reduction of plastic bag use through the distribution of reusable shopping bags, the promotion of anti-idling regulations for vehicles, and extensive communication efforts about recycling. The state also awards silver and gold awards for advanced programs, and the GREC wins bronze award GREC is seeking to reach the next level. In July, the Glen Rock Borough Council supported the group by approving an environmental resources inventory as an element of the Glen Rock Master Plan. “The program is constantly being revised and upgraded,”’ said GREC Chair Sandy Mehallow. “The requirements become broader, more specific, and more rigorous with each passing certification cycle.” J. KOSTER A Glen Rock ambulance en route to assist a man who had fallen from a tree collided with another emergency vehicle at the intersection of Maple and Glen Avenues shortly after 12 noon on Oct. 31. There were no reported injuries in the crash, but the ambulance had to be towed from the scene because its air bag system deployed. The other emergency reponse vehicle involved in the collision was also operated by a member of the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Police on the scene did not say whether both vehicles were responding to the same call. The man who fell from the tree sustained a minor arm injury and was transported to a local hospital by members of his own family. (Photos courtesy of Boyd Loving.)
