RBARI hosts Holiday Boutique The Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. will hold its annual Holiday Boutique, on Friday, Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will be held at VFW Post 5702, located at the corner of Pulis and Franklin avenues in Franklin Lakes. The boutique will feature seasonal decorations, holiday gifts for people and pets, crafts, homemade foods, and baked goods. There is no admission fee. Operation Chill-Chaser under way Wyckoff Girl Scouts are organizing Operation ChillChaser, the annual coat drive. Members of the community are asked to donate new or gently-used coats to help needy families. Coats may be brought to the main entrance of the Wyckoff YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff, throughout the month of November. Male groups to launch Chapel Concerts Six male choral groups will open this year’s Chapel Concert series at Don Bosco Prep on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. The event will be held at Mary Help of Christians Chapel in Don Bosco Prep’s Saint John’s Hall. The concert will feature the Newark Boys Chorus, under the direction of Donald Morris, and the New Jersey Youth Chorus Male Ensemble, under the direction of Billy Baker. Performers will also include choruses from Delbarton, directed by David Blazier; Seton Hall Prep, directed by Theresa Neglia; Bergen Catholic, directed by Barbara Peraino; and Don Bosco Prep’s own chorus, directed by Toni Bilotti-Cecere. For the grand finale, all choruses will come together to sing Dan Davison’s “Shout for Joy!” Upcoming Chapel Concerts will include a Christmas concert with flute and harp duo Patricia Lazzara and Kristy Chmura on Friday, Dec. 14; a collegiate A Cappella Concert on Feb. 9; and the Don Bosco Prep Young Artists’ Scholarship Competition Finalists on April 20, for high school students who excel in the arts. Tickets for the opening concert are $18. Tickets for all Recovery mode New Jersey was left reeling last week in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, which hit on Oct. 28 and continued into Oct. 29. Local residents faced widespread, multi-day power outages, property damage and detours due to downed trees and power lines, some flooding, disrupted telephone service, and long lines at gasoline stations reminiscent of the 1970s as both power to run the pumps and gasoline remained in short supply. Several residents headed for shelter while their homes had no heat. Emergency management teams did their job, and citizens pulled together to share food, generators, and even their homes. Historian to discuss Terence MacSwiney Neil Cosgrove will address the Irish American Unity Conference, 5th and 9th Chapter on Wednesday, Nov. 14. Cosgrove, a historian for AOH Division 3 in Pearl River, New York, will present a discussion about Terence MacSwiney, Lord Mayor of Cork during the Irish War of Independence in 1920, who died on hunger strike. Supportive Senior Solutions provides outreach In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Christine Souffront of Supportive Senior Solutions is offering free “well check” visits to senior citizens, the disabled, or ill in the Mahwah, Ramsey, Allendale, and Upper Saddle River areas. She will provide a status report to those who are concerned about a loved one or neighbor. Based on her findings, she will tap into local resources and agencies to connect individuals with critical services.
