‘Pirates of Penzance’ cancelled The Ridgewood Gilbert and Sullivan Company’s June 2 production of “The Pirates of Penzance” has been cancelled. Art exhibit to open An exhibit featuring the work artists created during the Women Gardeners of Ridgewood Garden Tour will be held this June at the Stable Gallery. YWCA Bergen County announces Open House dates YWCA Bergen County will hold a series of Open Houses for families interested in finding out “Y the W Makes a Difference” in summer camps. Camp Ma-Kee-Ya, which has relocated to Darlington County Park in Mahwah, will host an onsite Open House on Sunday, June 3 from noon to 3 p.m. Parents and children may enjoy refreshments and activities, meet camp staff, and get answers to all of their questions. The camp is located in the Upper Lake Area of the park at 600 Darlington Avenue. Camp staff will be available at the YWCA’s facility at 112 Oak Street in
Ridgewood on June 7 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., and on June 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The YWCA runs affordable day camps for children ages three through 12: Small Fry Camp in Ridgewood; Camp Orinda in Dumont; Camp Y-Oak-A in Saddle River; and Camp Ma-Kee-Ya in Mahwah. All YW camps offer American Red Cross Swim lessons, sports, arts and crafts, nature activities, and more. Counselor in Training programs for boys and girls ages 13 to 16 are also available. The program, which is open to girls in grades one through 12, will begin July 2 and run through Aug. 10. Participants may register for one or more weeks. Sessions will be held Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. at Veteran’s Field. Girls may attend one or both daily sessions. The program will be staffed by college and high school players who will work with the girls at all skill levels. The cost is $80 per week, $375 for five weeks, and $425 for six weeks. A YMCA membership is required to register for classes. Programs available this session include parent-child classes, karate, tennis, soccer,

Open Mic Night planned The Ridgewood Knights of Columbus will host an Open Mic Night on Thursday, June 14 at their clubhouse on South Broad Street at 8 p.m. Musicians and singers are invited to perform, and the public is welcome to attend this free community event. Bolger Heritage Center offers cemetery tour and lecture Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Reformed Church invites the public to a free presentation, “Beauty in the Cemetery,” on Saturday, June 2 at 10 a.m. in the church sanctuary. Ridgewood Historians Peggy Norris and Joe Suplicki will present a lecture and tour sponsored by the Bolger Heritage Center. The center, located at the Ridgewood Public Library, houses the village’s collection of local historical documents. OPRC’s Valleau Cemetery is one of the historic burial grounds included in the Heritage Center’s new program. At 11 a.m., a one-hour walking tour of the cemetery will be led by Norris and Suplicki. The cost of the tour is $5, and space is limited. The church is located at 660 East Glen Avenue. Activities will include a private, docent-led garden highlights tram tour followed by a gourmet bag lunch by caterer Abigail Kirsch at the
historic Snuff Mill. The bus will leave from the Graydon parking lot at 8:45 a.m. Boarding will begin at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $56 for HILT members and $61 for non-members. Members may purchase a season badge for the pool for $20, the special price for seniors at this event. On June 21, HILT will attend a performance of “Once on this Island” at the Paper Mill Playhouse. Lunch will be at the Carriage House on the theater grounds. The bus will leave from the Graydon Pool parking lot at 10:30 a.m. The cost is $53 for HILT members and $58 for non-members. Ridgewood residents, age 55 and up, are invited to join HILT, a senior organization under the auspices of the Ridgewood Department of Parks and Recreation. Monthly meetings include entertainment and/or informational presentations, followed by refreshments. Annual membership dues are $15. Seniors invited to Health & Fitness event The Ridgewood YMCA will offer a free day of healthy lifestyle activities for seniors in celebration of National Senior Health and Fitness Day: May 30. On that day, the YMCA will join with an estimated 100,000 seniors across the country to help promote active, healthy lifestyles through physical fitness, good nutrition, and preventive care. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ridgewood YMCA’s 112 Oak Street facility in Ridgewood, and will include free senior fitness classes, guess speakers, prizes, senior games, and more.
