Blood Drive announced The Glen Rock Community Blood Drive will be held June 3. The event is being sponsored by Saint Catharine Church in cooperation with Community Blood Services, and will help to ensure that the transfusion needs of area patients are met. The drive will be held at Saint Catharine Church, 905 South Maple Avenue in Glen Rock, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call Community Blood Services at (201) 251-3703. All types of blood are needed especially types O- and O+. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation. Club announces new officers The Activities Club has announced its new officers for the positions of treasurer and secretary. John Schlomann was elected treasurer and Walter Murphy will serve as secretary. Their two-year terms will commence July 1. The Activities Club is a group of retired and semi-retired men from Glen Rock and the surrounding communities. Members are involved in athletic, social, educational, and community service activities. Byrd HSA hosts Olympic fundraiser On June 2, the Home School Association at Byrd School will host its Olympic fundraiser, “As We Light up Byrd School.” The event will be held at Greek Taverna, 175 Rock Road, at 7:30 p.m. The event will feature open bar, hors d’oeuvres, and a prize fundraiser. Admission is $50 per person for a silver medal sponsor and $75 for a gold medal sponsor. All are invited. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Parade Committee seeks volunteers The Glen Rock Parade Committee is seeking volunteers to help stuff envelopes with contest tickets to support the borough’s Fourth of July Parade. The mailing, slated to be sent to 4,500 households, may be completed at home. It takes approximately one hour to stuff 200 envelopes. Anyone interested in helping with the mailing or the parade, and those who would like to submit an entry to march or drive in the event, may e-mail glenrockparade@gmail. com. will take participants on a walking tour of the Glen Rock Arboretum ON June 3. The certified Wildlife Habitat, located on Doremus Avenue next to the pool parking lot, contains over 170 species of trees and shrubs. The workshop will begin at 1 p.m. and will be held rain or shine. The fee to attend is $8 for adults; $5 for seniors, students, and arboretum members. Attendees are encouraged to wear rain boots and rain gear if necessary. These programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Glen Rock Arboretum. For more information, visit www.glenrockarboretum.org. The facility will remain open through Labor Day weekend. Glen Rock residents may purchase season badges in a number of categories. Family membership cards, which include all family members except for non-related care-givers, will be $380. The rate for a care-giver is $175. Badges for children six to 11 years old are $70, and youngsters 12 to 17 are $80. The cost for senior citizens is $25. Non-resident guest fees are $10 for an adult, and $5 for a senior citizen 62 or over and for young people 17 or under. Memberships may be purchased at borough hall, 1 Harding Plaza, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
