Maeve Cunningham was hired as an Education Center administrative assistant at $34,970, step five. Cheryl Amaker was hired as a confidential secretary to the assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction, and assessment at a salary of $55,000, pro-rated. The Ridgewood Board of Education also accepted multiple donations. The largest single donation, $2,349, came from Positive Life. The money will be used for the second phase of the pilot program at Ridgewood High School and to train five teachers. Positive Life is an international group that promotes the social acceptance and appreciation of people who have genetic anomalies and enables individuals’ peers and teachers to accept them as friends and members of the group. The NY Life Foundation gave the $2,000 to the school system, including $1,000 for the special needs RED program, and another $1,000 for programs at the Ridge School including $300 for Ridge School’s reading resources program, $200 for the Ridge School speech department, and $500 for Lucia Galeazza’s second grade classroom. (continued on page 21) The new three-year dog licenses that are available to Ridgewood residents who prove their pets had a 34-month rabies vaccination will save some time and effort, but not cash. The licenses now cost $18 for a dog that has been spayed or neutered and $25 for a dog that has not been spayed or neutered. Ridgewood’s share of this fee is $16.80 for the spayed or neutered dog, and $20.80 for the dog that has not been spayed or neutered, with the rest of the money forwarded New three-year dog licenses offer convenience, no discounts to the state. The three-year license fees were listed in the ordinance as $50.40 for a spayed or neutered dog and $63.40 for a dog that had not been spayed or neutered -- which was correct as far as Ridgewood’s share of the fee, but the state’s share of the fee was omitted. The full fee charged to residents will be $54 for a three-year license for an altered dog and $75 for a three-year license for a non-altered dog. J. KOSTER
