Margaret Joyce Barry, nee Tietjen, of Glen Rock died May 8. She was a graduate of Union Hill High School in North Bergen and received her associate of arts degree from Centenary College. She taught dancing at Arthur Murray’s studio in New York City. She was a member of the Hotsie Totsie Chapter of the Red Hat Society, the Empty Nesters, and the 1952 Union Hill High School Alumni, where she chaired the 50th class reunion. She was president of the Bergen-Passaic Chapter of the Centenary College Alumni from 1967 through 1969. She is survived by her husband Robert, her sons Robert Jr. and Sean, both of Glen Rock, and Kevin of Wyckoff, and her sister-in-law Margaret Callahan of Glen Rock. She was predeceased by her parents Margaret and Henry Tietjen, and her son David. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home in Fair Lawn. Vincent Adolph Carini of Wyckoff died May 1. He was 56. He is survived by his wife Grace, and his son Aidan. Jamie A. Fessler of Franklin Lakes, formerly of California, died May 8. He was 63. He was a U.S. Marine Corps and Army veteran and served as an Army recruiter. He worked as a postal worker for the U.S. Postal Service in Franklin Lakes and Pompton Lakes for the last 13 years. He is survived by is his mother Carolyn Fessler of Franklin Lakes, his daughter Tammy Mathisen of Pennsylvania, two grandchildren, his sister Janet Compton of Vernon, and his companion Brenda Heydt. He was predeceased by his father George Fessler, and his sister Joan Fessler. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 022417005. Garvin P. Kiernan of Ridgewood died May 4. He was 87. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He graduated from Seton Hall University in South Orange in 1949 with a degree in business administration. He was the president and co-owner of U.S. Corporation where he worked for 40 years. The company merged with Prentice Hall Corporate Services in the mid-1980s and he helped guide the transition until his retirement in 1988. He is survived by his wife Lucille (Bell), his children Laura Kiernan Beeson of Concord, New Hampshire, Marguerite Welch of Grapevine, Texas, Chief Warrant Officer Thomas F. He was 88. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from New York University. Before retiring in 1983, he was an engineer with Western Union in Saddle River for more than 40 years. He was a member and former commander of American Legion Post 145 of Glen Rock. He was a parishioner of Saint Catharine R.C. Church in Glen Rock, where he was a member of the Association of Mature Parishioners and a recipient of the Saint Catharine Jubilee Award. He was a member of the Western Union Retired Employees Association. He is survived by his wife Ann M. (Shaw) Lowney, his children Dr. Jo Ann Looney and Dr. Patricia Lowney, and five grandchildren, and one greatgranddaughter. Arrangements were made by Vander PlaatCaggiano Funeral Home in Fair Lawn. He had worked as a gear cutter for Van Vlanderin Machine in Paterson. He is survived by his children Helen Bonafede and her husband Christopher of Fair Lawn, Monica Jannicelli of Hawthorne and Whiting, Joel Luckman and his wife Claire of Newton, his daughter-in-law Anna Marie Luckman of North Haledon, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University. He worked at the Presto Lock Company in Garfield for 45 years as a tool and die maker and acted as a union shop steward. He had been a Little League Baseball coach and an assistant scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 31. He served as a recreation commissioner from 1991 to 2007 and as an usher at Saint Paul’s R.C. Church in Ramsey. He helped found the Ramsey Senior Center. He is survived by his wife Jean (Galka) Palmer, his children Diane Hill and Joe Palmer, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Jo Anne Rigg, nee Cliff, of Glen Rock died May 5. She was 61. She was a graduate of Hawthorne High School and the Berkeley School. She was the deputy tax collector for the Borough of Glen Rock and was a parishioner of Saint Catharine’s R.C. Church in Glen Rock. She is survived by her husband Bruce Rigg, her children Christian Rigg and his wife Kathryn of Wyckoff, Stephen Rigg and his wife Danielle of Pompton Lakes, and Jennifer Rutkowski and her husband David of Glen Rock. She was raised in Tampa, where she attended Dawson Business College, worked for the Tampa Morning Tribune, and created the Susan Lake line of ladies’ hats. She had worked in payroll administration for Bergen Community College in Paramus. She is survived by her sons John and Bob, and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Shel Schmolze, and her siblings Catherine, Martha, and Robert. Arrangements were made by Powell Funeral Home in North Carolina. She had worked as a salesperson and as a promoter of antique shows in local churches. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by her son Robert and his wife Lou Anne, two grandsons, two step-granddaughters, and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Angus.
