RCB, high school musicians share stage The Ridgewood Concert Band will present its fourth annual Side-by-Side Concert in which the finest high school musicians will share the stage with band. Student selected for this honor are: Laura Rann, euphonium, of Mahwah; Chris Grannuzo, tenor sax, Matt Greer, trumpet, Tyler McKinnon, alto saxophone, and Shane Peterson, tuba, all of Midland Park; David Asbury, bass trombone, and Emily Schreiber, clarinet, of Ramsey; Cara Montella, trombone, of Waldwick; and Nick Carpino and Matt Salisbury, alto saxophone, of Wyckoff. The performance will also feature jazz guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli and RCB Youth Soloist Contest winner Dana Nix from Parsippany. Program highlights for this concert will include familiar songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera,” “Irish Tune” (“Danny Boy”) by Percy Grainger, and a collection of jazz standards with Bucky Pizzarelli. This final concert of the RCB’s 2011-12 season, will be held at 8 p.m. on May 11 at West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $7 for students. Gardeners to hear talk on foliage The Bergen County Master Gardeners will host Judy Glattstein, renowned local author and lecturer, on May 21. The speaker will discuss the special place foliage has in the garden and landscape. This 7:30 p.m. meeting will be held in the County Administration Building, One Bergen Plaza, County Place in Hackensack. The author of eight garden books and numerous articles, Glattstein has lectured across the United States and abroad to garden clubs and professional organizations. She is an instructor at the New York Botanical Garden, Rutgers Gardens, and the Rutgers Home Gardeners School. Copies of her new book, “Consider the Leaf,” published by Timber Press, will be available for sale and signing after the lecture. The meeting is open to all interested gardeners free of charge. Refreshments, followed by announcements, start at 7 p.m. The gardeners are now collecting food for “Cans for Community.” Attendees are asked to bring a non perishable food donation to support this program. Wyckoff YMCA members and the FLOW community came out in numbers to celebrate ‘Goodwill Ambassadors’ at the Y’s 30th Annual Friends of the Y Dinner, held at the Wyckoff Family YMCA. The Y recognized and appreciated the contributions of Mayor Frank Bivona of Franklin Lakes, Rev. Louis Kilgore of Franklin Lakes, Joann Torack of Wyckoff, Dorothy Van Der Horn of Wyckoff, and Jeffrey Wild of Wyckoff. The award is given in memory of William E. Boye, a long-time supporter, volunteer and friend of the Wyckoff YMCA, and was presented to each honoree along with a proclamation from the township and state from Wyckoff Mayor Christopher DePhillips. A $1,000 scholarship named in the memory of former Wyckoff Superintendent of Schools Roger E. Clarke was presented by Dolores Clarke to high school senior Olivia Rutler of Wyckoff in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments. Rotblat to address guild Sylvia Rotblat will present “Shisha Embroidery” to the Bergen County Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America on Monday, May 14.
