Advanced Excel will be held Wednesday, May 9. Participants will learn how to create advanced reports. A basic knowledge of creating spreadsheets in Excel is required. Learn how to create bulleted and numbered lists and how to insert and edit pictures in Intermediate Word on Monday, May 14. A basic knowledge of creating documents is needed. On May 16, learn how to use overdrive to download library eBooks to eReaders. Attendees are encouraged to bring their eReaders, but ownership is not required. The Monday, May 21 digital camera class will offer information about how the cameras work, how to preview and transfer photos, and more. Attendees should bring their cameras, but ownership of a digital camera is not required. Classes will begin at 7 p.m. at the library. To register, call (201) 670-3970 or visit the library during regular hours. ‘Jews and Baseball’ series continues The Glen Rock Jewish Center Film Series will present “Jews and Baseball: An American Love Story” on Sunday, May 6 at 4 p.m. The film’s award-winning director, Peter Miller, will share some thoughts on his documentary, which celebrates the contributions of Jewish major leaguers and the special meaning baseball has had in the lives of American Jews. The film will feature Andy Cohen, a diminutive second baseman brought to the New York Giants to attract Jewish fans; the powerful slugger Hank Greenberg, who transformed the nation’s perception of Jews; the enigmatic catcher and WWII spy Moe Berg; the fiercely proud all-star third baseman Al Rosen; Sandy Koufax, the greatest lefthanded pitcher in the history of baseball and a hero to generations of Jews for not pitching on Yom Kippur; players‚ union leader Marvin Miller, who profoundly changed the economics of baseball; and modern-day stars like Shawn Green and Kevin Youkilis. An articulate and passionate group of interviewees includes former ballplayers Yogi Berra, Ron Blomberg, Bob Feller, Shawn Green, Koufax (who consented to a rare interview), Elliott Maddox, Al Rosen, Marv Rotblatt, Youkilis, executives, and writers. The film also includes input from fans including filmmaker Ron Howard, author Roger Kahn, and journalist Larry King. Their stories will be intercut with dramatic and never before-seen film clips and photos of great Jewish players, unforgettable games, and the broad sweep of American history during the past century. The script is by Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist Ira Berkow. Academy Award-winner Dustin Hoffman narrates. The center requests a $5 contribution at the door. The contribution will be $1 for children age 14 and under who are accompanies by an adult. Complimentary snacks will be provided. Family Day of Remembrance set A Family Day of Remembrance will be held on Sunday, May 6 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the ministry center at Saint Catharine’s R.C. Church. The service will include prayer, reflection, and other opportunities for participants to reflect on the lives of their loved ones. Spiritual retreat offered Members of the Loyola Men’s Retreat group of Saint Catharine’s Church in Glen Rock and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Ridgewood invite men to participate in the annual retreat set for May 19 and 20. The weekend event will be held at the Loyola Jesuit House in Morristown. Staffed by Jesuit priests and religious women, the retreat house offers an opportunity for participants to experience their faith. The property includes 30 acres of lawns, gardens, and woodland. Gardeners hold Plant Sale The Glen Rock Garden Club will hold its annual Plant Sale on Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Main Line Railroad Station on Rock Road. This annual fund- raiser, which will be held rain or shine, benefits borough beautification projects. Sale items will include flowers for Mother’s Day gifts, tomato plants, rhubarb, irises, annuals, and more. The main attraction will be plants grown by members from seed or propagation.
