HILT will meet at 10 a.m. in the auditorium of the Ridgewood Public Library at 125 North Maple Avenue. On April 19, HILT will travel to the Bethel Woods Center for the Performing Arts in Bethel, New York, the original site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival. Attendees will have a guided tour of the grounds, which includes the new 15,000seat performing arts center and the original field where the Woodstock Festival took place. Lunch will be served in the Event Gallery, and guests will have an opportunity to visit the Museum of Bethel Woods which tells the story of the 1960s and Woodstock. The bus will depart from the Graydon Pool parking lot at 9 a.m. The cost is $37 for members and $42 for nonmembers. Ridgewood residents who are age 55 and older, are invited to join Highlights in Leisure Time, a senior organization under the auspices of the Ridgewood Department of Parks and Recreation. Knights host Pancake Breakfast The Ridgewood Knights of Columbus will host an allyou-can-eat Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, March 31 from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the parish center of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1 Passaic Street in Ridgewood. There will be a special appearance former New York Giant Jeff Feagles. The Easter Bunny will also be paying a visit. The donation is $10 per child under age 13; $15 for adults. Register for fall soccer Registration for the Ridgewood Soccer Association’s 2012 fall season will begin April 1. Soccer programs are available for children and teens in preschool through grade 12 at all skill levels. Players in grades one through four may register for intown teams. Those in grades five through eight may register for travel teams. Both groups have one practice during the week and play one game over the weekend. Players in high school are eligible to play on a coed Division 2 team. High school participants scrimmage once during the week and play games on Sunday afternoons. The RSA also offers special needs sessions on Saturday afternoons. Designed for children ages six through 14, this program develops skills and promotes physical fitness. All players are paired with a coach-mentor from the Ridgewood High School Girls Soccer team and receive individualized attention in a small group setting. Players who register after May 15 will be assigned to teams on a space available basis and will be charged a $50 late fee. Learn about the Y’s International Camp On April 3, the Ridgewood YMCA will hold a 7 p.m. program for parents and teens interested in applying for the Y’s International Camp Program 2012. This year’s program will feature trips to Senegal and the Dominican Republic. Trips are open to teens in grades 10 through 12 and offer life-changing experiences and opportunities for personal growth as participants complete important service projects. The trip to the Dominican Republic will take place June 24 through July 3. Participants will work on the repair and construction of homes for families in need. The teens will also work with Dominicans to complete agricultural projects. At ICP Senegal, scheduled for July 21 through Aug. 5, teens will help build classrooms, refurbish a YMCA kindergarten building, and complete important agricultural work. Participants in both programs will visit local landmarks and destinations and experience local culture and history. ICP challenges participants to develop self confidence, independence, and a spirit of cooperation, as they deepen their appreciation for the diversity and interdependence among the world’s people. Social Justice Weekend events announced The Unitarian Society of Ridgewood will launch its Fourth Annual Social Justice Weekend on Friday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. The evening’s event will feature a screening of “Teached: Volume 1,” a series of three short films that assess our nation’s race-based achievement gap and explore solutions offered by students, parents, teachers, and community members who live this reality every day. A discussion will be facilitated by educator/consultant Sally Lewis. Special guests will include Carlene Anderson, a third grade teacher at Paterson’s School #12, and Dr. Cary Bell, a retired Ridgewood school administrator. The suggested donation is $5. On March 31 at 6:30 p.m., the society will host a dinner and panel discussion about education justice. Panelists will include David Sciarra, executive director of the education law center; Mark Rigdon, executive director of the Global Philanthropy Group at J.P. Morgan Chase; Mary Bennett, executive director of Project GRAD Newark; and moderator Susan Usatine, Esq., partner at Cole, Schotz, Meisel, Forman & Leonard, P.A. The suggested donation is $20.
