Vintage photographs were focus of library program
by John Koster A collection of family photographs that featured Ridgewood at the turn of the 20th century were the focus of a lecture at the Ridgewood Library. assembled an album of 200 photographs taken between 1897 and 1899. Irene Mastin married A. Edward Lester in 1898 and the two owned the property that includes the Lester Stable.
The stable is now owned by Ridgewood and is used as the headquarters for Ridgewood Parks and Recreation. Mastin and Lester’s son, Andrew Lester, was the (continued on page 14)
A number of small thefts occurred in Ridgewood during the first week of March, according to the Ridgewood Police Department. On March 2, a Waldwick resident reported that her purse was stolen while she was at MacMurphy’s on Godwin Avenue. Also on March 2, an employee at Salon V at 19 Oak Street reported that a female customer who had received services stepped outside for a cigarette and never returned, leaving her bill unpaid. Another March 2 incident occurred when an employee of Kings Supermarket reported that his vehicle had been parking in the store’s parking lot, and that when he returned
Village police report multiple thefts
to the vehicle after work he found two of his tires slashed. On the same day, a Saddle Brook resident reported that while she was a patient at Valley Hospital, her wallet was stolen. On March 5, at 4:15 p.m., a resident at Norgate Road reported that he had returned home and discovered that his home had been burglarized. A first floor window had been forced open and the master bedroom had been ransacked. The Ridgewood Detective Bureau is investigating all the crimes against property. The Bergen County Sheriff’s Department is assisting with the home burglary. J. KOSTER
