Police youth program gets $3,500 from Camp Yaw Paw
Glen Rock Mayor John van Keuren, the borough council, and Patrolman Matthew Stanislao recently received a check for $3,500 from Robert Saydah and Robert Shoemaker, both of whom are Glen Rock residents and trustees of the Camp Yaw Paw Foundation. The funds will be used for the Glen Rock Youth Leadership Program, which was formerly known as DARE. Patrolman Stanislao, a graduate of Kean University and former grammar school substitute teacher and police academy instructor teaches middle school students from Glen Rock’s public schools and at the Academy of Our Lady. Courses include how to resist peer pressure related to drugs, alcohol, bullying, and other negative forms of behavior. The Camp Yaw Paw Foundation of Ridgewood and Glen Rock, named for the rustic Scout camp in the Ramapo Mountains, supports youth programs in Glen Rock and Ridgewood. The check presented to the Glen Rock Borough Council and accepted by Patrolman Stanislao at last week’s council meeting, will be used to purchase materials and supplies for the program.
