The 4 p.m. concert, which will also include performances by guitarist Shinji Hawada and the church choir, will be held at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at 120 East Pleasant Avenue in Maywood. Donations will benefit Oasis Life Care, a non-profit Japanese Christian volunteer organization. A special worship service remembering the tsunami and earthquake victims will be held at 1:30 p.m. Interpreters will be available. Burke to discuss Irish warrior Robert Burke, an Irish language teacher with the Ridgewood Community School, will present a talk on Cuchulainn, the mythological Irish warrior, and the story, “Táin Bó Cúailnge” (“The Cattle Raid of Cooley”), from the ancient Ulster cycle of Irish literature to the Irish American Unity Conference, Chapter 5th and 9th CD. Employment workshop scheduled Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church’s Career Resources Ministry, in its continuing effort to provide help to people seeking employment, will present the second of a four-part series of workshops on Sunday, March 11 at 1 p.m. The workshop will be held in the meeting room in the lower church and is open to anyone seeking employment and those who anticipate possible unemployment. Parish membership is not required. Workshops are presented by the Career Resources Ministry, whose members are dedicated to helping those seeking employment. Professionals in the field will present the workshop and will be on hand to give advice. HILT announces activities for seniors Guitarist and banjo player Nick DeLuccia will entertain the members of Highlights in Leisure Time on Thursday, March 8. The group will meet at 10 a.m. in the auditorium of the Ridgewood Public Library, 125 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. On March 14, HILT will travel to Tim McLoone’s Supper Club on the waterfront at Asbury Park for a Saint Patrick’s Day celebration. The event will include lunch and a top-notch show headlined by singer Bobby Byrne. The bus will depart from Graydon Pool at 10:45 a.m. Boarding will begin at 10:30 a.m. The group will return at approximately 4:30 p.m. The cost for members is $37 and $42 for non-members. Dad’s Night 2012 hits the stage and Drug Abuse, will offer social mixers that include students from both of the village’s middle schools. Each evening offers students a chance to get acquainted with future classmates while enjoying music and dancing with DJ Sound Illusion, refreshments, and games. Mixers are held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. A mixer for students in grades seven and eight will be held on Friday, March 16 in the Ridgewood High School Campus Center at 637 East Ridgewood Avenue. On March 23, a mixer for sixth grade students will be held in the Mount Carmel Church gym at 52 Passaic Street. A donation of $8 will be requested at the door. Tennis instruction offered The Ridgewood Parks and Recreation Department will offer village residents several early spring tennis sessions at the Bellair Courts. Youth participants may choose from Thursday or Friday classes, which will begin March 29 and 30. Sessions will meet as follows: Children in kindergarten and first grade, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; students in second and third grades, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.; students in fourth and fifth grades, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.; and those in grades six and up, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Adult classes will be held on Fridays beginning March 30. Sessions will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. or 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The fee for each five-week instruction session is $95. All rain cancellations will be made up. Sport Squirts, T-ball offered Ridgewood Recreation Division has invited U.S. Sports Institute to provide “Sport Squirts” and a new T-Ball program. The cost for each seven-week program is $140. Children ages three through five are invited to Sport Squirts, a program designed to introduce participants to a variety of sports in a safe, structured environment. All games and activities promote hand/eye coordination, balance, agility, and movement. In addition to learning basketball, T-ball, hockey, lacrosse, and soccer, participants will develop social interaction and communication skills while having fun. One-hour sessions will be offered on Mondays or Wednesdays. Monday sessions, which will begin April 16, will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. or 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Wednesday sessions, which will begin April 18, will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. or 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. All equipment is provided by U.S. Sports Institute. T-Ball classes are for children ages three through five, and offer the core components of the game taught through a series of activities in a positive and supportive environment. One-hour sessions will be offered on Thursdays. Participants may play from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m., 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., or 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. Equipment will be provided. Doug Barnes and Tom Donatacci Dad’s Night, which is now celebrating its 68th Anniversary, will be held March 9 at 7 p.m. and March 10 at 4 p.m. Over 250 dads will be storming, crawling, and leaping about the stage at the Benjamin Franklin Middle School. Dad’s Night features is a group of dads and guardians whose children attend either Somerville or Hawes elementary schools who mount a show to benefit school programs. In the past, Dad’s Night has provided funds for SMARTboards, cameras, new audio visual equipment, a playground, library equipment, and Science Days. Each year, the dads write their own scripts and songs, play their own music, design and sew their own costumes, build their own sets, and put on a musical revue for the hundreds of kids in town. This event is part of the Society Café Concert Series. Wine, desserts, and coffee, all provided by local vendors, will be available before the shows and during intermission.
