The ordinance would limit parking on both sides of Hillman to four hours a day Monday through Friday during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. No parking would be permitted on the 200 feet of Hillman Avenue closest to Ackerman Avenue, a busy county road that is also a residential street. Mayor John van Keuren said after the meeting that the intent is to keep commuters from blocking residential streets by using them for all-day parking to avoid paying the parking fees for lots available near the borough’s bus stops and railroad stations. In some other cases, the mayor said, the restrictions on street parking are intended to keep parked cars from clogging residential streets and making it difficult for residents to use their own driveways or have friends drop over. The Hillman Avenue situation is one of several in which the convenience of the New York City buses had turned a side street into unauthorized commuter parking space. In other business, the council appointed Patricia Miller of Wyckoff as assistant to the tax collector and tax assessor at $18 an hour, Kimberly McWilliams of Glen Rock as violations clerk for the borough clerk at $75 per court session, and Sara Ilenko of Glen Rock as assistant pool manager for the Glen Rock Municipal Pool at a rate of $19 per hour. The council also approved the appointments of Fred Donatelli, Kevin Walsh, and junior member Taylor Robbins Jr. to the Glen Rock Volunteer Fire Department.
