Page 6 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • June 27, 2012 Ridgewood District appoints five new teachers for fall by John Koster The Ridgewood Board of Education has appointed five new teachers, a new guidance counselor, and a new secretary for 2012-13, including two individuals who were already on staff in different assignments. Jacqueline Hurley was been appointed a third grade teacher at the Ridge School at a salary of $50,890 class 1 step 1 with certificate of eligibility from the New Jersey Department of Education with advanced standing as an elementary school teacher. She was previously hired as a leave of absence replacement teacher at the George Washington Middle School for the same time period. Katherine Keppel has been hired as a special education teacher for the George Washington Middle School at $54,210. Kelly Lyons has been hired as a self-contained special education teacher at the Willard School at a salary of $57,530. Rachel Oldenburger has been hired as a temporary leave of absence replacement second grade teacher for the Ridge School. She resigned as a technology associate at the Ridge School to accept the new position. Her new salary will be $50,890. Elizabeth Unanue has been hired as a collaborative special education teacher at the George Washington Middle School at a salary of $50,890. Marisa Mahoney has been hired as a temporary leave of absence replacement guidance counselor for the new school year at a salary of $63,697. The school board also hired Theresa Caliendo as a guidance and child study team secretary for the Benjamin Franklin Middle School effective Aug. 1 through the new school year at a salary of $34,006. The board also approved several change orders for school construction projects at the June 18 meeting. The largest single series of change orders included $212,309 to H&S Construction of Elizabeth for work at Ridgewood High School. These orders included $142,050 for music room ductwork; $56,936 for the installation of six split air conditioning units in Rooms 303, $305, and 310; $3,721 for relocation and heating units in the vestibule; and $9,603 to create metal student and gypsum walls in the Little Theater and Gym II Mezzanine area. A separate change order for $8,743 covered additional repairs required to the upper landing and beams of the boiler room at Ridgewood High. Another change order awarded $105,000 for compensation to the Bennett Company of Passaic for additions to the George Washington School. The Ridgewood Board of Education received a number of donations for school programs as the school year drew to a close. The largest single donation was $2,105 from the Orchard School Student Activities Fund to pay the PEP Club advisor’s stipend. PEP stands for Physical Education Plus. The Adventure Leadership Peer Support group donated $2,000 to pay the chaperone stipends for ALPS field trips. The Ridgewood High School Class of 2012 donated $1,684 to pay chaperone expenses for the senior prom. One family gave $1,000 to the child study team for child study costs at Somerville School. Schools receive year-end donations The Ridgewood High School TV Club gave the school DVDs and cases valued at $344. Sunflower Portraits gave $261 to be used for the remedial education program at the Glen School. The Ridgewood High School Arts Club donated $211 to reimburse Dick Bennett, who transported art students on a field trip to Lightroom Studios & Botanical Gardens. A number of parents gave donations of $50, 25, or $10 to the Ridgewood High School Legacy Program to purchase books. J. KOSTER Temple Israel and JCC of Ridgewood will launch its third season of Summer Music Fridays on July 6, when synagogue member Jonathan Taylor will present “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Moussorgsky. Taylor began his piano training with Morton Estrin at age eight, and continued his classical musical studies at Case Western Reserve University and SUNY Stony Brook. He has been involved in multiple school productions and community orchestras as a piano soloist. In addition, he has Experience ‘Summer Music Fridays’ been a rock-and-roll keyboard artist and has been a member of The Maccabeats, a local band. Taylor frequently serves as a soloist and accompanist at Temple Israel events. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary, followed by a festive gathering with refreshments.
