Kevern Cameron, a theater teacher at Glen Rock High School, and Dennis King, a special education teacher at the Glen Rock Middle School, were the Robert H. Ax Award winners in Glen Rock this June. Cameron graduated from Knox College in Illinois, and did graduate work at the University of Hawaii. He pursued a career in active theater work and electronic media work after college, and served as a videotape editor for WABC-TV news and creative services for more than 20 years. Cameron changed careers at the age of 57 and joined the faculty of Glen Rock High School 10 years ago. King graduated from Quinnipiac College as a history major. He then worked in the music industry for more than five years before changing his career to education.
Cameron and King receive Robert Ax Award
He became certified in special education and earned a master’s degree in education with a special certification in reading. He too came to Glen Rock 10 years ago after teaching in several other districts. The Robert H. Ax Award was established in 1968 to honor Robert Ax, the founding principal of Glen Rock High School, upon his retirement in 1969. Ax had served 14 years in the district and died at the age of 84 in 1993. The Home and School Association, which manages the award, receives nominations from teaching peers for the best candidates. The board also honored Grandon Voorhis, a biology teacher and 2004 Ax Award winner, upon his retirement this year. J. KOSTER
The Glen Rock Swimming Pool complex will open for the summer on June 22. The facility will remain open through Labor Day weekend. Glen Rock residents may purchase season badges in a number of categories. Family membership cards, which include all family members except for non-related care-givers, will be $380. The rate for a

care-giver is $175. Badges for children six to 11 years old are $70, and youngsters 12 to 17 are $80. The cost for senior citizens is $25. Non-resident guest fees are $10 for an adult, and $5 for a senior citizen 62 or over and for young people 17 or under. Memberships may be purchased at borough hall, 1 Harding Plaza, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday
