The emphasis is on having fun. Children, ages five through 14, who participate in the Multi Sports Camp program will have an opportunity to experience many different sports from around the world. Instruction and play may include badminton, baseball, basketball, bocce, cricket, net ball, field hockey, flag football, lacrosse, hand ball, floor hockey, discovery games, Olympic games, parachute, soccer, softball, tennis, touch rugby, and volleyball. All activities and games take place in a positive, lowpressure, educational environment under the guidance of The U.S. Sports Institute’s qualified coaches. These camps promote integrity, self-esteem, positive values, and good sportsmanship. The programs will be held at Maple Park the week of Aug. 6. The cost is $100. A half-day Multi Sports Camp is available for children ages five through seven. This program, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will include 10 sports at a cost of $169. Children ages two through five are welcome. Each week, a story will be read that will become the inspiration for creation of a special masterpiece. Notable book characters include Corduroy, Elmer, the Rainbow Fish, and more. The cost of this camp is $90. All materials will be provided. Children age two and three years old must be accompanied by a caregiver. Registration is currently under way for the August summer art programs for children in grades two through eight. have students working at their own level using drawing pencil and pastels. The following materials are required for the drawing class: an 11 by 17 drawing pad, soft pastels, a kneaded eraser for pastels, a pencil eraser, two drawing pencils, and a smudger. The Great Big Messy Art Camp will be held Aug. 20 through 23 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. This class is open to children in grades one through four. Students will have fun making sticky spaghetti designs, paint that fizzes and pops, messy portraits, and mud paintings. The cost for the four sessions is $125 and includes all materials. Children who will be in grades five through eight this fall may register for 2012 Track and Field. The program will take place at the Benjamin Franklin Middle School track facility for two four-day sessions. Session 1 will be July 9 through July 12 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Session II will be July 16 to 19. Fridays will be held for rain makeup dates. Participants will focus on fun as they learn skills including long jump, triple jump, high jump, hurdles, shot-put, discus, and javelin. There will be track and field games, friendly competition, and an opportunity to prepare for a final meet during the last day. Ridgewood High School Varsity Winter Track Head Coach Mike Mullin will conduct the program. High school varsity athletes will serve as counselors and provide individual instruction. Each session is $120. Both sessions will be available for $225. Participants will receive a camp T-shirt.
The Genealogical Society of Bergen County and the Ridgewood Public Library will celebrate the restoration of several books from the library’s collection on Tuesday, June 19. The 7 p.m. event will be held at the library, located at 125 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. Light refreshments will be served and the public is invited. The society’s 11 volume set, “Documents Relating to the Colonial History of the State of New York,” published in the 1850s, has been repaired and rebound. This set contains transcripts of Colonial-era documents and includes many citations for Bergen County, New Jersey places and

persons. The set is indexed and can be easily searched and should be of great interest to both historians and genealogists. The books’ previous fragile condition meant the set could not be shelved with the rest of the Genealogical Society of Bergen County’s collection. With repairs and rebinding, the set is now more accessible to historians and genealogists with interests in documents for early New York or Bergen County.
