The concerts will be held at 8:30 p.m. The Ridgewood Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company will perform selections from the “Pirates of Penzance” on June 12. The sponsor for this event is the Village of Ridgewood. The Richard Reiter Swing Band will perform June 14. This program is sponsored by Hudson City Savings Bank. The Harmony Celebration Chorus “Sweet Adelines” will entertain on June 19. The sponsors for this program are Van Dyk Health Care, Inc. and The Ridgewood News. On June 21, hear songs of the Beatles performed by Ticket2Ride. This event is sponsored by Keller Williams -- Ridgewood and Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill. Lou Gallo and Friends will present a “Children’s Evening” on June 26. This program is sponsored by Clemente Orthodontics, Ridgewood Dentistry- Warren Boardman D.M.D., and the Village of Ridgewood. On June 28, Ireland to Broadway will be presented by the Bobby Byrne Show. The program is sponsored by Feeney Funeral Home and Tarvin Realtors. For 54 years, free summer entertainment under the stars has been offered at the Kasschau Shell. Each week, a variety of family entertainment is offered. Attendees should bring a lawn chair or blanket. Restrooms are wheelchair accessible. In addition, many local organizations and businesses provide the funds to support these programs. KinderKickers players wanted Registration is now open for 2012 Fall KinderKickers, an introductory soccer program for Ridgewood boys and girls, ages four and five, who are in preschool and kindergarten. Coordinated by the Ridgewood Soccer Association, the program acquaints children with basic soccer skills while emphasizing the enjoyable aspects of the game. Weekly sessions introduce soccer-oriented games and teach basic soccer skills in a non-competitive environment. The program is led by professional trainers, who focus on having fun and promoting physical fitness. The program will be held on eight Saturdays beginning Sept. 8. Schedules with starting times will be posted on the Ridgewood Soccer Association website after Labor Day. The cost is $100 per player and includes an official team jersey and soccer ball. Attendees should wear shin guards, sneakers or cleats, which are available for purchase at most

KinderKickers, jointly sponsored by Ridgewood Soccer Association and the Maroons Soccer Club, is coordinated each fall by the Ridgewood Soccer Association and presented each spring by the Maroons Soccer Club. The Ridgewood Soccer Association also offers programs for players in grades one through 12, and special needs sessions for children ages five through 14. Late registrations are now being accepted. Camp seeks art supplies The Ridgewood Day Camp is seeking donations of art supplies. The following items are needed: colored tissue paper, artificial flowers, pipe cleaners, elastic thread, ceramic tiles, shirt cardboards, crepe paper, poster board, permanent markers, drawing paper, Styrofoam balls, Scrabble tiles, shells, ice cream sticks, lace, ribbon, wooden shapes, beads, wooden plaques, clay flower pots, plastic lids, snap clothes pins, scissors, acrylic paints, feathers, sand dollars, and small glass bottles. All items may be dropped off at The Stable Office, 259 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Backyard swimming lessons offered The Ridgewood YMCA is again offering backyard swimming lessons to pool owners. From June 25 to Aug. 4, the Ridgewood YMCA will offer two-week sessions of eight, half-hour classes. A special one-week session of four half-hour classes is also available from Aug. 20 to 24. Participants also have a choice between private or semiprivate lessons, which can include friends, family, and neighbors. Early registration for the program is recommended, as sessions fill quickly. Co-op openings available The Cooperative Nursery School of Ridgewood has openings in several of its classes for the 2012-13 school year. The co-op offers classes for children ages one-and-ahalf to five years, including kindergarten enrichment. The school has both morning and afternoon classes, and a variety of extended day options, including Discovery Fridays, a program designed to supplement the class curriculum. The co-op is organized and run by parents. This enables each parent to actively participate in his or her child’s early learning experience. Music, physical education, field trips, indoor and outdoor play time, and an in-house library are just a few of the experiences to which the children are exposed as supplements to the daily education plans. Temple Israel and JCC of Ridgewood will launch its third season of Summer Music Fridays on July 6, when synagogue member Jonathan Taylor will present “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Moussorgsky. Taylor began his piano training with Morton Estrin at age eight, and continued his classical musical studies at Case Western Reserve University and SUNY Stony Brook. He has been involved in multiple school productions and community orchestras as a piano soloist. In addition, he has been a rock-and-roll keyboard artist and has been a member of The Maccabeats, a local band composed primarily of Temple Israel congregants. Taylor frequently serves as a soloist and accompanist at Temple Israel musical events. Taylor’s musical family includes relatives who perform with the Metropolitan Opera and with the LA, Portland, and Buffalo philharmonic orchestras. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary, followed by a festive oneg (gathering with refreshments). Kabbalath Shabbat services will begin at 8:30 p.m. The suggested donation is $10. Swords to discuss ‘Irish Proverbs’ Mary Ann Swords will discuss “Irish Proverbs” at the next meeting of the Irish American Unity Conference, 5th and 9th Chapter on Wednesday, June 13, at 7:30 p.m. Swords is a teacher of Irish language and culture at the Institute for Learning in Retirement at Bergen Community College.
