Krista Lee LaCroix named Central School principal
by John Koster Krista Lee LaCroix, an instructional supervisor at Millburn’s Hartshorn School, will be taking over as principal of Glen Rock’s Central School at the end of the school year. “I tell people this is my second marriage,” LaCroix said. “I was married to the Millburn schools for 16 years, and now, hopefully, I’ll be married to the Glen Rock schools for another 16 years. I’m excited about this and I’m looking forward to meeting the staff, the children, and the parents.” LaCroix, who has a husband, a daughter, and a son along with her career, is a graduate of Caldwell College with a degree in teaching and psychology. She holds a master’s degree from Kean College in instructional administration and another from the College of Saint Elizabeth in elementary education. She is a specialist in language arts and in all aspects of curriculum and administration. LaCroix has served 16 years in the Milburn schools, with 11 years at the Hartshorn School, an elementary school that serves 548 students. “She’s hitting the ground running. That’s a good sign,” Glen Rock Board of Education President Rona McNabola said of the newly-hired principal. “She didn’t just say, okay, I have a job for next year, she’s going to be coming to the district to meet the staff and the parents before she takes over. Her letters of recommenda-
tion were outstanding, and it seemed that nobody wanted to lose her, though they understood that she wanted the experience of becoming a principal.” McNabola added that, of the applicants who applied, LaCroix was one of the two candidates whom the Steering Committee forwarded to Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Verducci, and the only candidate whom Verducci forwarded to the board at large. “We gave her some scenarios at the interview, describing situations and asking how she would handle them, and she came through with flying colors,” McNabloa said. “Some of the board members asked Dave Verducci if he wasn’t going to forward the other candidate as well, and he told them, ‘If you don’t like this one, you’re not going to like the other one any better.’ And he was right. On this board, people will argue about whether (continued on page 14)
