The members of the club have spent many hundreds of hours supporting various organizations, including the Thielke Arboretum, the Friends of the Library Book Sale, the Garden Club Plant Sale, the GREEN Recycling Center, Meals on Wheels, the veteran’s home in Paramus, Valley Hospital, and the Hermitage in Ho-Ho-Kus. The Activities Club is a non-political, not for profit, non-sectarian organization, and provides semi-retired and retired men with the opportunity to participate in varied activities. Library offers busy summer for children, teens The Glen Rock Public Library, located at 315 Rock Road in Glen Rock, is offering a wide range of reading programs for teenagers and younger children this summer. Sponsored by the Friends of the Glen Rock Library, the programs will run through Aug. 16. The Dream Big program, for youngsters from preschool through the grade three, will focused in part on the summerlong scavenger hunt. Details are available at the Glen Rock Library Children’s Room. The “Stuffed Animal Sleepover” will take place on Tuesday, July 31 starting at 7:30 p.m. Children will enjoy stories with stuffed animals. The stuffed animals -- but not the children -- will then sleep over at the library. “Paws for Reading” will be offered in 10-minute reading sessions on July 23 and 30, and on Aug. 6. Children five years old and up can make friends with certified therapy dogs and polish their reading and public speaking skills as they read to these animals. Sessions take place between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. “Playdough Storytimes” will be offered on July 16, 23, and 30 and Aug. 6 at 10 a.m. Children three to eight years old can pair up with older children for “Book Buddies.” Sessions are planned for July 19, and 26 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. “Science Fun: Water Jelly Crystals” will be offered on July 17 at 10:30 a.m. or 3:30 p.m. This program is for children in grades one through three. Author Alison Formento will entertain children in grades one through three. This program will be held July 24 at 3:30 p.m. Great Readers of Glen Rock, followed by Rita’s Ices on the front lawn, will be held on July 26 at 7 p.m. “The Night Owl Club” is for students in grades four, five, and six. On June 27, youngsters will meet a T-Rex at the library at 4 p.m. Described as a 15-foot breathing and roaring dinosaur, the T-Rex is not for the faint of heart. The Book Club will offer a chance to talk about “Isle of Blue Dolphins” by Scott O’Dell from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. on July 17 and “No More Dead Dogs” by Gordon Korman on Monday, Aug. 6 from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. “Science Fun: What Did Your Owl Eat Today?” will be held at 6 and 7:30 p.m. on July 24. Youngsters will have an opportunity to dissect sterilized owl pellets. Fifth graders will try “Legos at the Library” on Tuesday, July 31 at 6:30 or 7:30 p.m. Fourth graders will have their chance on Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. Origami, Japanese-style paper folding, will be offered on Aug. 2 and 9 at 4 p.m. Teens can enjoy gaming nights, watch movies, and take classes in duct tape crafts on July 24 from noon to 2 p.m. A Hula Hoop seminar will be held July 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. and yoga will be held July 23 and 30 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. A song writing workshop with musician Kathy Moser will run from 4 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 1, and Karaoke Night will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 2. Municipal pool open The Glen Rock Swimming Pool complex is open for the summer. The facility will remain open through Labor Day weekend. Glen Rock residents may purchase season badges in a number of categories. Family membership cards, which include all family members except for non-related care-givers, will be $380. The rate for a care-giver is $175. Badges for children six to 11 years old are $70, and youngsters 12 to 17 are $80. The cost for senior citizens is $25. Non-resident guest fees are $10 for an adult, and $5 for a senior citizen 62 or over and for young people 17 or under. Memberships may be purchased at borough hall, 1 Harding Plaza, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. GRTV seeks volunteers Internship and volunteer opportunities are now available at Glen Rock Television. This community resource televises government, education, and current event programs. The not-for-profit entity is run solely by volunteers from the community. Volunteers are currently needed in the areas of marketing, production, programming, and public relations associated with providing hometown coverage of events.
