Ridgewood July 18, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 11 Police cite teen pedestrian, arrest irate man by John Koster The Ridgewood Police Department did not charge the motorist who struck a 15year-old girl who was struck by a car as she improperly crossed a lighted intersection. The girl, a resident of Florida, was illegally crossing Linwood Avenue at the Paramus Road intersection at 4:30 p.m. Wendy Dockray has been named to the Ridgewood Planning Board as previous members’ roles were redefined by the newly reorganized Ridgewood Village Council. Deputy Mayor Al Pucciarelli will remain on the planning board as the council’s designated member, and new Ridgewood Mayor Paul Aronson will replace former Mayor Keith Killion. The other members will remain in place, but in some different roles. Dockray is a nine-year resident of Ridgewood, and her grandparents and great-grandparents lived in the village. She is a graduate of Vassar College and holds a master’s degree in public affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School of Princeton University. Dockray also holds Dockray appointed as board reorganizes a certificate in historic preservation from Drew University. She has worked as an economist for the City of New Rochelle, and is currently a Realtor and warden of Saint Bartholomew’s Church in Ho-HoKus. She is also a member of the board of directors of the YMCA of Bergen County. Dockray will replace Cyril Grant as first alternate member. Grant, a veteran alternate, has moved up to become a regular Ridgewood Planning Board member. Mary Jane Shinozuka will be the second alternate on the newly constituted Ridgewood Planning Board. Shinozuka, while serving on the planning board and in volunteer positions, ran for the council in May, but was not elected. J. KOSTER July 10 when she was struck by a Jeep traveling west on Linwood Avenue. The teen flew over the hood of the Jeep and was knocked unconscious. She recovered consciousness when she was rushed to Valley Hospital. She suffered cuts and bruises, but her condition was listed as stable after the collision. The motorist, who was driving according to the rules of the road, was not charged, but the girl received a citation for crossing a traffic-lighted intersection against the light. Ridgewood police and council members have frequently stressed that pedestrians should not assume that being on foot gives them the right of way, and that pedestrians should not walk across roads where motorists do not have a clear line of sight or may not be able to stop, regardless of whether the pedestrians have the right of way. On July 5, 29-year-old Ramsey man who lost his temper at the Ridgewood Health Department also lost his freedom, at least temporarily, when a Ridgewood police officer found that he had an outstanding warrant against him. Ridgewood Patrolman Jeffery Kay responded to the complaint about an irate man at 12:02 p.m. and found that the man had an outstanding warrant issued by the Glen Rock Municipal Court. The man was arrested and turned over to the Glen Rock Police Department. In an unrelated incident on July 6, a North Van Dien Avenue resident reported a somewhat minor burglary to his residence. The victim reported that someone had entered his residence through a window and that the only items missing appeared to be three bottles of beer and a candy bar. Police are investigating the incident.
