Teen Video Game Tournament set The Glen Rock Public Library will hold an epic Nintendo Wii Video Game Tournament for teens on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Snacks will be provided. Registration is required and may be completed by calling (201) 670-3970, e-mailing alex.tretiak@bccls.org, or visiting the library at 315 Rock Road during regular hours. Library offers eReader training sessions This month, the Glen Rock Public Library will offer two eReader training sessions to residents who would like to learn more about how to download library eBooks to their own eReaders, and a discussion about the differences between the most popular eReader systems. The first session will be held at the Glen Rock Public Library, 315 Rock Road, on Monday, Jan. 23, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The second class will be held Saturday, Jan. 28, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Participants who presently own eReaders are asked to bring these devices to the classes, but ownership of an eReader is not required. The space is limited and registration is required. Call (201) 670-3970. Catholic school plans Open House The Academy of Our Lady will celebrate Catholic Schools Week with a series of Open Houses. These events will be held Jan. 29 from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., and Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend and learn about the programs offered by the school for children age two through the eighth grade. Each Open House will highlight the school’s traditional core curriculum subjects, the Christian values emphasized through community service, the new computer lab and SMART Board technology solutions in every classroom, and the dedicated foreign language and computer class in addition to music, art, physical education, and library. The Academy of Our Lady offers two classes per grade,
award-winning academic teams, extracurricular activities, over 25 clubs and sports, and flexible morning and aftercare programs. Seniors to hold Potluck Lunch The Glen Rock Seniors Citizens Club will host a Potluck Lunch on Wednesday, Jan. 25. This event will be held at 1 p.m. at the municipal annex at 678 Maple Avenue. Those planning to attend are requested to bring a favorite dish to share. Attendees should RSVP to Ida at (201) 796-6423 and let her know what they intend to bring to avoid duplicate dishes. Portions should be large enough to feed six to eight people. Seniors do not have to belong to the organization to attend. The cost for those who do not bring a covered dish is $8. Fornatale presents ‘Story of Woodstock’ Legendary WNEW/WFUV disc jockey Pete Fornatale will present the “Story of Woodstock” on Jan. 29, 2012. This vivid multi-media presentation includes rare audio clips and video footage of the artists who played there. This program will take place at 3 p.m. at the Glen Rock Jewish Center, 682 Harristown Road in Glen Rock. Fornatale, one of the architects of Progressive Rock FM in the ‘60s, has one of the most recognizable voices in rock radio. He has been a fixture on the New York dial for four decades, starting his career at WFUV in November 1963 as a Fordham undergraduate hosting “Campus Caravan,” and then moving to WNEW-FM in 1969 and K-Rock in 1989. Jazz vespers series begins Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is celebrating its twelfth season of “Vespers in the Key of Jazz.” The Jazz
Vespers worship service takes place on the second Sunday of the month. Upcoming dates are Feb. 12, March 11, and April 1. Jazz Vespers is a worship service featuring jazz music by noted jazz musicians tied to a message by Pastor Roger Spencer. On Feb. 12, the William Paterson Jazz Ensemble will perform. The annual Pasta Dinner will follow at 6:15 p.m. Tickets for the dinner are $10 per person and $20 per family. Tickets may be purchased at the door. The bridge group meets on Tuesdays, except during the third week when the general membership meets. All skill levels from beginner to expert are represented. Library hosts teen book discussions Teens are invited to the informal book discussions at the Glen Rock Public Library. Sessions meet every other Monday at 7:30 p.m. and are designed for teens to express their reactions to an eclectic selection of works. Each month will feature one graphic novel and one text novel. This opportunity to explore some of the most revered teen titles is supported by the Friends of the Glen Rock Public Library. Sign-up sheets and copies of the books are located at the reference desk.
