As the needs of the community grow and evolve, the Midland Park Children’s Love Fund has developed new approaches to fundraising initiatives that will allow the organization to provide greater financial assistance by increasing the gross dollar amount of donations and pursuing programs that increase the dollars retained after expenses. The organization has also welcomed Katelyn Nejmeh and Michael DaSilva as members of the Fundraising Committee. They will dedicate their energy to making the new efforts a success. Valentine’s Day has traditionally been the holiday the fund chose to ask neighbors to “give a little bit of your heart” to the less fortunate in the community. This year, the Love Fund will continue to use the season to appeal to neighbors, this time through a fun-filled evening. On Saturday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m., the organization will host Uncle Floyd for an evening of local Jersey comedy at Ken-

nedy Hall at The Church of the Nativity. Uncle Floyd has been entertaining audiences since the early 1970s, and has appeared on network television, cable TV, and radio over the course of his career. Known for poking fun at his native New Jersey, Uncle Floyd is a hilarious act, and is sure to bring smiles to all who attend. Tickets for the Uncle Floyd show are $40 per person, and include a pasta dinner and dessert. Those who attend may bring their own beverages. For information, or to purchase tickets, call Michele Nejmeh at (201) 670-7292, or e-mail shell0323@aol.com. The Love Fund thanks the community for its gracious generosity in 2011 and over the 35 years of the Love Fund’s existence. Without this unwavering and selfless support, the valuable assistance the organization provides to the children of our community would not be possible. Donations may be made at any time by sending a check to: The Midland Park Children’s Love Fund, P.O. Box 327, Midland Park, NJ 07432 or online at www.mpchildrenslovefund.org.

The Midland Park Borough Council is expected to select a new council member at its regular meeting on Jan. 26. The vacancy on the six-member council was created when Councilman Patrick “Bud” O’Hagan resigned to assume the mayor’s post on Jan. 5. The Republican Municipal County Committee, chaired by former Mayor J. William Van Dyke, has until Jan. 20 to submit to the council the names of three qualified residents for consideration. Van Dyke said he would forward the names to the borough clerk by week’s end. The council has

an additional 15 days to select the finalist. If no decision is made by the council, the municipal committee makes the selection. “I’m happy to have such a great group of names to submit,” Van Dyke said. The person appointed will serve until the November election, when the one-year remaining in O’Hagan’s term will be filled by the electorate. The municipal committee is comprised of the elected county committee representatives from each voting district in the borough – a man and a woman from each.
