Cowan concert, workshop announced Organist Ken Cowan will present a concert on Sunday, March 4 at 4 p.m. at West Side Presbyterian Church. Admission is free and child care will be provided for preschoolers. Praised for his dazzling artistry, impeccable technique, and imaginative programming, Cowan has performed throughout the world. Currently he serves as associate professor at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton. He holds degrees from the Yale Institute of Sacred Music and the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. He has made numerous critically acclaimed recordings, and has won many prestigious competitions. On Saturday, March 3, Cowan will conduct an organ workshop from 9 a.m. to noon. This program is sponsored by the Northern New Jersey Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. All organists are welcome to attend. Middle school mixers planned Ridgewood Parks and Recreation, with sponsorship from the New Jersey Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, will offer social mixers that include students from both of the village’s middle schools. Each evening offers students a chance to get acquainted with future classmates while enjoying music and dancing with DJ Sound Illusion, refreshments, and games. Mixers are held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. A mixer for students in grades seven and eight will be held on Friday, March 16 in the Ridgewood High School Campus Center at 637 East Ridgewood Avenue. On March 23, a mixer for sixth grade students will be held in the Mount Carmel Church gym at 52 Passaic Street. A donation of $8 will be requested at the door. All donations will benefit restoration of the Community Center from damage caused by Hurricane Irene. Adult chaperones are always needed. Those interested in volunteering may call (201) 670-5560. Sport Squirts, T-ball offered Ridgewood Recreation Division has invited U.S. Sports Institute to provide “Sport Squirts” and a new T-Ball program. The cost for each seven-week program is $140. Children ages three through five are invited to Sport Squirts, a program designed to introduce participants to a variety of sports in a safe, structured environment. All games and activities promote hand/eye coordination, balance, agility, and movement. In addition to learning basketball, T-ball, hockey, lacrosse, and soccer, participants will develop social interaction and communication skills while having fun. One-hour sessions will be offered on Mondays or Wednesdays. Monday sessions, which will begin April 16,
will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. or 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Wednesday sessions, which will begin April 18, will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. or 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. All equipment is provided by U.S. Sports Institute. T-Ball classes are for children ages three through five, and offer the core components of the game taught through a series of activities in a positive and supportive environment. One-hour sessions will be offered on Thursdays. Participants may play from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m., 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., or 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. Equipment will be provided. Society Café Concert Series continues Boston vocalist Jeannie Gagne and Ridgewood’s own Rave Tesar Trio will perform jazz, blues, and more at the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood on Friday, March 9. This event is part of the Society Café Concert Series. Wine, desserts, and coffee, all provided by local vendors, will be available before the shows and during intermission. The doors will open for wine and dessert at 7:00 p.m. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 and may be reserved at www.societycafeconcertseries.com and paid for at the door. Tennis instruction offered The Ridgewood Parks and Recreation Department will offer village residents several early spring tennis sessions at the Bellair Courts. Youth participants may choose from Thursday or Friday classes, which will begin March 29 and 30. Sessions will meet as follows: Children in kindergarten and first grade, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; students in second and third grades, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.; students in fourth and fifth grades, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.; and those in grades six and up, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Adult classes will be held on Fridays beginning March 30. Sessions will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. or 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The fee for each five-week instruction session is $95. All rain cancellations will be made up. HILT announces activities for seniors Guitarist and banjo player Nick DeLuccia will entertain the members of Highlights in Leisure Time on Thursday, March 8. The group will meet at 10 a.m. in the auditorium of the Ridgewood Public Library, 125 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. On March 14, HILT will travel to Tim McLoone’s Supper Club on the waterfront at Asbury Park for a Saint Patrick’s Day celebration. The event will include lunch and a top-notch show headlined by singer Bobby Byrne. The bus will depart from Graydon Pool at 10:45 a.m. Boarding will begin at 10:30 a.m. The group will return at approxi-

Club presents ‘Charlotte’sWeb’ The Woman’s Club of Ridgewood will present a March 25 production of “Charlotte’s Web” by Theatreworks USA. The program will be held at The Village School Auditorium, 100 West Prospect Street in Waldwick. This musical production of Joseph Robinette’s play includes incidental music by Jeffrey Lunden, and is based on E.B. White’s classic story of the friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a little gray spider named Charlotte. Show times will be 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Advance tickets are $15 for all seats. Learn more about SOAR West Bergen’s Asperger’s Related Services has announced that it will again sponsor the SOAR Experience, a summer program for children and teens, ages six through16, with Asperger’s Syndrome and other related disorders. The SOAR Experience, a therapeutic social skills program in a day camp-like environment, will be held at the Center for Children and Youth at One Cherry Lane in Ramsey. The SOAR Counselor in Training Program offers teens and young adults (ages 14 through 24) with Asperger’s vocational training and an opportunity to develop various work and social skills. Donohue to present Irish folk music Gabriel Donohue will present a concert of traditional and modern Irish folk music on Sunday, March 4 at 2 p.m. at the Ridgewood Public Library, 125 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. Donohue will sing and play the piano, guitar, whistle, and bodran (a small drum). The program includes a medley of Irish songs of rebellion, emigration, and transcendence of Irish and Irish-Amercan life from 1670 through contemporary life among Americans of Irish descent. The concert is sponsored by the Friends of the Ridgewood Library and donations will be requested at the door. Concert-goers are advised to arrive early for the best available seats.
