Page 10 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • February 29, 2012 Glen Rock Roundup High school presents ‘Peter Pan’ The Glen Rock Middle School will present its 2012 musical, “Peter Pan,” on Friday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 3 at 4 p.m. A free preview performance for senior citizens will be held on Thursday, March 1 at 4 p.m. Audiences will be transported to the island of Neverland and enchanted by Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Wendy, and many other memorable characters in this classic musical about a boy who would not grow up. Group plans Saint Patrick’s Day Party The Saint Catharine Association of Mature Parishioners will host a Saint Patrick’s Day Party on Tuesday, March 13 at the Royal Manor in Garfield. Jazz vespers series begins Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is celebrating its twelfth season of “Vespers in the Key of Jazz.” The Jazz Vespers worship service takes place on the second Sunday of the month. Upcoming dates are March 11, and April 1. Jazz Vespers is a worship service featuring jazz music by noted jazz musicians tied to a message by Pastor Roger Spencer. On Feb. 12, the William Paterson Jazz Ensemble will perform. The annual Pasta Dinner will follow at 6:15 p.m. Tickets for the dinner are $10 per person and $20 per family. Interact Club hosts fashion benefit The Glen Rock High School Interact Club will host its annual Fashion Show on Wednesday, Feb. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The high school is located at 400 Hamilton Avenue in Glen Rock. Fashions, which will be modeled by both students and teachers, are being provided by David’s Bridal, Betsy Johnson, Biltmore Tuxedos, and others. Hair and makeup services are being donated by Sasha Hair and Day Spa and Bellula Hair Salon, both of Glen Rock. Proceeds from the event will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge in Burlington, Vermont, which provides free overnight lodging and support for cancer patients who must travel far from home for cancer treatment. Tickets to the Fashion Show are $6 and may be purchased at the door. In the effort to help GRHS’s sister school in Paterson, admission will be free to anyone who donates a prom dress for the students at the Paterson school. Donations of prom dresses may also be dropped off at the high school office during regular school hours. Last year’s fashion show netted over $1,000. Irish music concert features Ciaran Sheehan Irish tenor Ciaran Sheehan and singer Kimilee Bryant will perform a concert of Irish music on Friday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1 Passaic Street in Ridgewood. The concert, which is being jointly sponsored with The Academy of Our Lady in Glen Rock, will include Sheehan’s friends Gabriel Donohue, Heather Martin-Bixler, and the Strings of Tara, as they perform a mixture of timeless Irish classics and moving inspirational favorites. Sheehan, an accomplished singer and celebrated Broadway star, has performed in “Les Miserables,” in the role of Raoul and as The Phantom in “Phantom of the Opera.” He has sold out Carnegie Hall. Bryant has performed the role of Christine in “The Phantom of the Opera” on Broadway and in Switzerland and Toronto. Intro to Digital Cameras, which will be presented Feb. 29, will cover digital cameras, digital image formats, and how to transfer photos to a computer. The March 5 class, Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint, will include the basics of Microsoft PowerPoint, a program used for creating digital presentations. Center hosts events On March 8, the Glen Rock Jewish Center’s book group will discuss Henry Roth’s “Call It Sleep” at 7:30 p.m. This novel is the story of David Schearl, the “dangerously imaginative” child coming of age in the slums of New York. The book covers Jewish life and is full of the pain and honesty of family relationships. Expanded WiFi, scanning services available Glen Rock Public Library patrons may now enjoy expanded WiFi service at the library and free scanning capability. The library now has an improved WiFi signal, which should eliminate “dead zones.” The service signal now reaches to all four corners of the library’s main floor. The library recently installed a digital scanner. Patrons may now scan documents free of charge to one of the library’s public iMacs, then edit, save, e-mail, print, or share the digital copies. Group seeks new members The M.O.T.H.E.R.S. group of Saint Catharine’s parish welcomes new members. The group, which is open to working and stay-at-home moms with children of all ages, provides support, knowledge, and friendships while promoting a sense of community. Events for children, families, and couples take place throughout the school year, including programs for moms both with and without their children. Spiritual and social events include playgroups, book club, yoga, recipe groups, and spring socials. M.O.T.H.E.R.S. also is involved with charitable works in the community.
