Computer classes available The Glen Rock Public Library will offer three computer classes in the coming weeks. Intro to eReaders will be held Feb. 22. Attendees will learn all about eReaders, like the Kindle and Nook, and how to borrow the library’s eBooks. Intro to Digital Cameras, which will be presented Feb. 29, will cover digital cameras, digital image formats, and how to transfer photos to a computer. The March 5 class, Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint, will include the basics of Microsoft PowerPoint, a program used for creating digital presentations. Classes begin at 7 p.m. at the library located at 315 Rock Road. Registration is required and may be completed by calling (201) 670-3970 or by visiting the library during regular library hours. Interact Club hosts fashion benefit The Glen Rock High School Interact Club will host its annual Fashion Show on Wednesday, Feb. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The high school is located at 400 Hamilton Avenue in Glen Rock. Fashions, which will be modeled by both students and teachers, are being provided by David’s Bridal, Betsy Johnson, Biltmore Tuxedos, and others. Hair and makeup services are being donated by Sasha Hair and Day Spa and Bellula Hair Salon, both of Glen Rock. Proceeds from the event will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge in Burlington, Vermont, which provides free overnight lodging and support for cancer patients who must travel far from home for cancer treatment. Tickets to the Fashion Show are $6 and may be purchased at the door. In the effort to help GRHS’s sister school in Paterson, admission will be free to anyone who donates a prom dress for the students at the Paterson school. Donations of prom dresses may also be dropped off at the high
school office during regular school hours. Last year’s fashion show netted over $1,000. The Interact Club, a student organization that is an extension of Rotary Clubs International, provides opportunities for students to become involved in community service projects. Artale to discuss physical therapy The Glen Rock Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary invites the public to its Feb. 27 meeting at the municipal annex, 678 Maple Avenue in Glen Rock. At 1 p.m., guest speaker Paul Artale will present a program about physical therapy. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call (201) 444-1285. Center hosts events On March 8, the center’s book group will discuss Henry Roth’s “Call It Sleep” at 7:30 p.m. This novel is the story of David Schearl, the “dangerously imaginative” child coming of age in the slums of New York. The book covers Jewish life and is full of the pain and honesty of family relationships. The novel holds the distinction of being the first paperback ever to receive a front-page review in “The New York Times Book Review.” RSVP to Michelle at librarian@grjc.org. Group plans Saint Patrick’s Day festivities The Saint Catherine Association will host a Saint Patrick’s Day Party on Tuesday, March 13 at the Royal Manor in Garfield. The bridge group meets on Tuesdays, except during the third week when the general membership meets. All skill levels from beginner to expert are represented. Library hosts teen book discussions Teens are invited to the informal book discussions at the Glen Rock Public Library. Sessions meet every other Monday at 7:30 p.m. and are designed for teens to express their reactions to an eclectic selection of works. Each month will feature one graphic novel and one text novel. This opportunity to explore some of the most revered teen titles is supported by the Friends of the Glen Rock Public Library. Sign-up sheets and copies of the books are located at the reference desk.
