Ridgewood February 15, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 9 On March 2, the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra will present its first concert of 2012 featuring piano prodigy Alice Burla in a performance of the third Beethoven Piano Concerto. The 8 p.m. performance will take place at West Side Presbyterian Church, 6 South Monroe Avenue in Ridgewood. The program will also include Wagner’s Prelude to “Parsifal” and Tchaikovsky’s “Polish Symphony No. 3 in D Major.” “Alice Burla is only 15 years old,” noted Manny Sosinsky, president of the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra, “but she’s well on the way to becoming an international superstar. We are delighted to present this incredible prodigy to our area. We’ll also be featuring one of Tchaikovsky’s less known symphonies. We’re looking forward to an inspiring evening of music.” Born in Toronto, Burla began studying the piano at the age of four, and one year later won the National Final of the Canadian Music Competitions. Just two years later, she was one of the youngest students ever accepted by Juilliard’s Pre-College Division. At Juilliard, Burla studied with Oxana Yablonskaya. By the age of 11, Burla was performing 10 different piano concertos with orches- Piano prodigy Alice Burla to perform with symphony tras in the Ukraine, Mexico, and the U.S. As a solo recitalist, she has performed in Germany, Poland, Italy, Austria, France, Japan, and Canada. In recent years, Burla has also appeared with the Brooklyn Philharmonic, Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, New York Sinfonietta, Adelphi Chamber Orchestra, Rockland Symphony, and Hawthorne Symphony. In 2008, she became the youngest performer ever to be added to the Yamaha Corporation of America’s roster of classical artists. In 2007, 2008, and 2011, she performed on PBS’s “Live from Carnegie Hall” and WQXR’s “From the Top.” Advance general admission tickets for the Ridgewood Symphony concert are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $10 for students. Tickets purchased at the door will be $23 for adults, $18 for seniors, and $13 for students. The Ridgewood Symphony is among the largest volunteer symphonies in the country, with players from 48 different municipalities in Bergen, Passaic, and Rockland counties. The orchestra is directed by Arkady Leytush.
