Glen Rock February 8, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 7 The Glen Rock Board of Education has exercised its option to move the board of education election to November. Residents will continue to vote on the school board candidates, but would only be allowed to vote on the school budget if the spending plan exceeds the state-mandated cap, which is currently two percent. The board will also continue to submit the budget to the County Superintendent’s office before it can officially be adopted. The Glen Rock Board of Education adopted a resolution to move the board election to November by a vote of 7-2 at the Jan. 23 meeting. Trustees Theresa Moore and Randi Blumberg opposed the change. Board members who would have sought election or re- Trustees vote 7-2 to move election to November election in April will now run in November. The new legislation signed by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on Jan. 17 offers local school boards the option of changing the election date from April to November, but allowed local boards the final decision as to whether to change the date – with the explicit proviso that the local tax levy be kept at or under the cap. The new state law requires the boards that vote to move to a fall election retain the new date for the next four years. The move to a November election will affect the school board members whose terms are expiring this year by extending their terms to the end of the year instead of April. Nominating petitions will be due by the June primary. The candidates eligible for re-election are Gene Calderon, Theresa Moore, and Barbara Steuert. J.
