A scene from “100 Voices: A Journey home.”
The Glen Rock Jewish Center will present the documentary, “100 Voices: A Journey Home,” on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. at the center. Prewar Poland, the birthplace of cantorial music, is the subject of this powerful film, which features 72 cantors from the International Cantor’s Assembly that visited Poland in 2009. The film will present a visual tour of Jewish life in Poland before the Holocaust when Polish and Jewish cultures were interwoven. The film follows the cantors on a mission to help the revival of Jewish culture in their ancestral land. The film shows the cantors performing at the Warsaw Opera House, the largest theater of its kind in Europe; the Krakow Philharmonic; participating in Poland’s annual Jewish Cultural Heritage Festival; and conducting the first Jewish service at Auschwitz-Birkenau. GRJC Cantor Ted Prosnitz will lead a discussion after the movie. Admission is $5; light refreshments will be served.
