Ridgewood February 1, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 11 Organist Ken Cowan will present a concert on Sunday, March 4 on the new, three-manual Nichols & Simpson Sanctuary Pipe Organ at the West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. This concert is free and open to the public. Cowan will also conduct an organ workshop from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 3. This event is being sponsored by the Northern New Jersey Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. All organists are welcome. He holds degrees from both the Yale Institute of Sacred Music and the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, has made numerous critically acclaimed recordings, and has won many prestigious competitions. The Ridgewood Concert Band will present “Midwinter Musicale,” the third in a series of five seasonal concerts, at West Side Presbyterian Church, 6 Monroe Street in Ridgewood, at 8 p.m. on Feb. 3. Guest timpanist Barry Centanni will be the featured artist. Centanni attended Montclair State University before earning bachelor’s degree in performance from the Manhattan School of Music and a master of music degree from the Juilliard School. He is the principal percussionist with the Orchestra of Saint Luke’s and performs with other orchestras, including the New York Pops, the New York Philharmonic, the Westfield Symphony, the Colonial Symphony, the New Jersey State Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera. His television credits include “Live from Madison ‘Midwinter Musical’ to feature Centanni Square Garden,” “Live from Lincoln Center,” “Saturday Night Live,” and “Late Night with David Letterman.” He has performed with Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Sting, Whitney Houston, James Taylor, Elton John, and with the bands Yes, the Moody Blues, and Metallica. The prelude concert at 7:30 p.m. will showcase the Lakeland Regional High School Concert Band directed by Laurie Kunzle.
