Circus coming to town The Franklin Lakes Lions Club will host a circus on Sunday, Sept. 16 at McBride Field, which is located on Franklin Lake Road across from the Urban Farms Shopping Center in Franklin Lakes. Shows will be at 1, 3, and 5 p.m. The show will feature a wide assortment of entertainment, including clowns, jugglers, aerialists, dog acts, and pony and camel rides. The event will be held rain or shine. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door the day of the circus. Children under two years old will be admitted free. Advance ticket purchase is recommended as some shows sell out. Tickets are now available at these Franklin Lakes locations: Cartridge World, 80 Franklin Avenue; TD Bank at the Urban Farms Shopping Center; and Super Deli Mart, 809 Franklin Avenue. Proceeds will benefit the various charities the Franklin Lakes Lions Club supports, including the Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat, Saint Joseph’s School for the Blind, The Seeing Eye, Camp Marcella, and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Yankees and Giants players to appear Get to know the pros on Sept. 17, when David Phelps and Jayson Nix of the New York Yankees and Prince Amukamara of the New York Giants are scheduled to appear at the Wyckoff YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. These athletes will share their journeys to the world of professional sports, the role a personal faith played, and how they have succeeded in facing the challenges and pressures in their lives. General admission is $10 per person. To become a “Hall of Fame Sponsor,” the cost is $300, which entitles the sponsor to the pre-event “meet and greet” reception at 6 p.m., reserved seating for two, and an autographed ball. Band’s summer series concludes The Waldwick Band will conclude its summer season with an Aug. 31 concert in the parking lot of Hudson City Savings Bank on East Prospect Street, Waldwick at 8 p.m. Audience members should bring their own seating for this performance. In the event of rain, the concert will be held on Sept. 6. There is no admission charge for the concert, which is being sponsored by the Waldwick Department of Recreation. The Ridgewood YMCA’s 39th Annual Golf Outing will take place on Monday, Sept. 24 at the Knickerbocker Country Club in Tenafly. Proceeds will support the Good Works Programs. The fun-filled day of golf, cocktails, and dinner will begin at 9:30 a.m. with registration and breakfast. Bergen County Players present ‘The Music Man’ The Bergen County Players, now celebrating its 80th year, will kick off its 2012-2013 season on Sept. 8 with the Meredith Willson’s musical comedy, “The Music Man.” Under the direction of Larry Landsman, The Music Man will be performed at the Little Firehouse Theatre, 298 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell from Sept. 8 through Oct. 6.
