Nature in the Village with New Jersey Audubon will be offered to children in kindergarten through grade two. Students will enjoy seasonal nature discussions, hands-on crafts, and nature walks on Thursdays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Sept. 20. New topics are provided weekly. The fee for the six sessions is $95 and includes all materials. Aviation Club with Hobby Quest will be offered to students in kindergarten through grade five on Fridays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Sept. 21. Participants will gain knowledge of the fascinating world of aviation, learn how to read and evaluate construction plans, and utilize various hobby tools as they create and operate a variety of air models. The cost is $120 for six sessions and includes all materials. Yoga classes will be offered to students in grades five through eight on Wednesdays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Sept. 19. Through a series of postures, exercises, and games, participants will improve flexibility, balance, and strength as they learn to regulate emotions and release stress. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat. The fee is $65 for five classes. Children ages three through five may enroll in Happy Feet Dance Instruction. The class will meet on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. beginning Oct. 3. Youngsters will receive an introduction to basic ballet positions and try thematic movement. The cost is $50 for the five-week session. Formal dance attire is not necessary. My First Art Class with Abrakadoodle will meet on Tuesdays beginning Sept. 18 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. This class, which is open to children age 20 to 42 months with a caregiver, will offer the chance to drip, mold, paint, and explore. The art activities are new each session and are designed to provide opportunities for little ones to touch, feel, hear, see, and explore while building fine motor skills, language, creativity, and cognitive skills. Children should dress for messy fun. The cost is $110 for the six-week session and includes all safe, non-toxic Crayola materials. Mini Doodler Mix It Up with Abrakadoodle is available to children ages three through five. This mixed media class will meet from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning Sept. 19. The $95 fee for the five-week session includes all materials. Enrichment options abound for village children Happy Piano for children ages three through five will meet on Thursdays beginning Sept. 20 from 1:15 and 1:45 p.m. Students will learn the basics of music theory and how to play familiar songs on the piano. Educational songs, props, and teaching aids all make learning fun. Each child is provided with a keyboard to use in class. The cost is $120 for the six-week session. All new students will need material kits, which will be available the first day of class. The additional fee for the kit is $35; checks may be made payable to “Happy Piano.” Preschoolers may enjoy sports instruction with U.S. Sports Institute in “Sport Squirts” and T-ball classes. Both classes are open to children ages three through five and cost $105. Both programs meet on Veterans Field North. Sport Squirt classes introduce children to a variety of sports in a safe, structured environment. All games and activities promote hand/eye coordination, balance, agility, and movement. In addition to learning basketball, Tball, hockey, lacrosse, and soccer, participants will develop social interaction and communication skills while having fun. One-hour sessions will be held on Wednesdays beginning Sept. 19. Sessions include 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., 10:45 to 11:45 a.m., 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., and 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. All equipment is provided by U.S. Sports Institute. T-Ball classes are for children who have not entered kindergarten. Core components of the game are taught through a series of activities in a positive and supportive environment. One-hour sessions will be held on Thursdays beginning Sept. 20. Times include 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., 10:45 to 11:45 a.m., 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., and 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. The cost of the five-week program is $105. Equipment is provided, but players may bring a glove from home. Elementary school children in kindergarten through grade three are invited to Explore Science: Our Earth Above and Below on Mondays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Sept. 24. Children will explore the world above by creating a telescope and kaleidoscope, and experiment with air and physics by creating a windmill and catapults to soar above the clouds. Participants will also dig for fossils, shark teeth, and geodes, and create a Cartesian diver. The fee is $95 for the six classes and includes all materials. Children in grades two through six may take an acrylic painting class on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Sept. 18. Participants will receive individual attention and will be provided with goals and objectives to help them find their own personal approach to painting. The cost for the six classes is $60. Materials are additional; a list will be provided at registration. A calligraphy class will be offered to students in grade three and up on Tuesdays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Sept. 18. Students will learn the art of beautiful handwrit- ing so they can create invitations, greeting cards, stationery, signs, and more. The fee is $70 for six classes. A $20 materials fee is required for new participants. Drawing classes are available to children in grades two through five on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m., beginning Sept. 18. Students will work at their own level using drawing pencils and pastels. The cost for five sessions is $50. Materials are additional; a list will be provided at registration. Canvas Painting with Abrakadoodle is open to children in grades one through three on Thursdays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Sept. 20. Students will design and paint a golf course (sand included), learn to make a lace painting, get messy learning about impasto, learn to draw and paint superheroes, and more. Participants will learn about Japanese artist Katsuhiko Hibino, celebrated Cuban painter Amelia Peláez, and others from around the globe. Scheduling after December is still be worked out, but Silver Fox Songs, which offers jazz and soul performances by Rhonda Denet and the Silver Fox Songs Trio in a variety of African-American genres, is expected on Feb. 10. Mikhail Smirnov and his Russian dance troupe will probably appear at the end of the concert season next spring for a rousing medley of Russian, Ukrainian, Cossack, Russian Jewish, and Russian Gypsy songs and dances.
