(continued from Restaurant page) new on Blu-ray, is the story of Catherine Valmont (Francoise Blanchard), a wealthy heiress dead before her time, who is accidentally reanimated when some careless movers attempt to store drums of chemical waste in the neglected burial vaults below her uninhabited chateau. Director Jean Rollin sees to it that his “living dead girl” does everything cinematic convention requires. She kills people, drinks human blood, and devours human flesh, yet she is presented as an innocent. Meanwhile, the effect that her return has upon her childhood friend, Helene (Marina Pierro), is far more deliberate and evil, as Catherine enlists Helene to find young women victims. Mastered in HD from the 35-millimeter negative, “The Living Dead Girl” is in French, with optional English subtitles. Extras include an introduction by Jean Rollin, four featurettes, a Jean Rollin interview excerpt, the original theatrical trailer, and 12-page booklet with a critical essay. “One in the Chamber” (Anchor Bay Entertainment) takes place in Prague, where two skilled assassins make themselves available for hire to the Mafia. However,
when one assassin, Carver (Cuba Gooding, Jr.), takes a job with a gang he was once hired to eliminate, an allout mob war is launched and survival becomes uncertain. To make matters worse, another assassin (Dolph Lendgren) has been hired to take out Carver, resulting in considerable bloodshed. Rated R for violence, language, and sexuality, “One in the Chamber” is an average action thriller. At 91 minutes, its pace is brisk, there is a lot of action, and the characters are often over the top. There are no bonuses on this release, which is available on Bluray and DVD. “NCIS: The Ninth Season” (CBS Video) is a six-disc set featuring Mark Harmon as Senior Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The weekly episodes mix action with considerable doses of humor and often focus on complex and always amusing dynamics of a team of special agents in the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. The team travels the world to investigate crimes tied to the Navy or Marine Corps. Cases range from murder and espionage to terrorism and stolen submarines. “NCIS” also stars Rocky Carroll, Cote de Pablo, Sean Murray, Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette, and David McCallum. Bonuses include audio commentary and featurettes about the show’s preparation, post-production, and casting; its 200th episode; and Jamie Lee Curtis in the recurring role of Dr. Samantha Ryan.
