Road closure announced Local motorists are advised that road work is planned for North Monroe Street between Smith Place and Jackson Terrace in Ridgewood. PSE&G will be replacing sections of the road following damage to a section of underground electric infrastructure. Work is expected to begin Aug. 22 and should be completed on or about Aug. 24. No work is planned for Saturday or Sunday. Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Traffic will be detoured to Fairmount Road and local police will be on the scene. The road will be reopened to traffic after 4 p.m. each work day. Motorists are reminded to slow down and be alert when driving past the job site. Nobel Prize winner to discuss global warming The North Jersey Public Policy Network Distinguished Expert Series will present a talk by Dr. Kevin Trenberth, senior scientist for the National Center for Atmospheric Research, climate analysis section, on Friday, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Trenberth’s program, “Global Warming: The Future Outlook,” will take place at the Ridgewood Public Library, 125 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. Dr. Trenberth will discuss his observations and the science of climate change caused by human activity, the potential environmental and socio-economic consequences, and options for adapting to or mitigating the effects of climate change. A question and answer session will follow. Dr. Trenberth led the intergovernmental panel on climate change to win the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for the Scientific Assessment of Climate Change Reports. He is a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society and the American Association for Advancement of Science and the American Geophysical Union. KinderKickers players wanted Registration is now open for 2012 Fall KinderKickers, an introductory soccer program for Ridgewood boys and girls, ages four and five, who are in preschool and kindergarten. Coordinated by the Ridgewood Soccer Association, the program acquaints children with basic soccer skills while emphasizing the enjoyable aspects of the game. Weekly sessions introduce soccer-oriented games and teach basic soccer skills in a non-competitive environment. The program is led by professional trainers, who focus on having On Aug. 7, four separate victims reported having their Wells Fargo accounts compromised after using the ATM at the North Walnut Branch of Wells Fargo. The same day, an employee of Quick Stop on Godwin Avenue reported that a customer had taken her iPhone from the counter. The suspect was caught on surveillance video. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau. At 6:05 p.m. on Aug. 9, police responded to a report of an erratic driver on South Maple Avenue. Patrolman Kyle Finch located the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop on North Maple Avenue. During the stop, it was determined that the driver, a 62-year-old Upper Saddle River man, was intoxicated. He was arrested and Village Police Department Report charged with DWI, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, and open container in a motor vehicle. He was released pending an appearance in Ridgewood Municipal Court. On Aug. 11, three separate incidents of graffiti were reported in the area of Crest Road. The initials A.B.M. were spray painted on a sign, a wall, and a gas vent. The matter is under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau. At 4:41 p.m. on Aug. 13, a Northern Parkway resident reported a burglary. The home was entered via a window in the rear of the house. The only thing reported missing was flat screen television. The Ridgewood Police Department notes that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. After that date, a $50 late fee per child is applied. Jamboree alumni reunite Alumni of Ridgewood’s annual Jamboree event are seeking to reconnect with past producers, directors, crew members, and actors. Since 1947, Jamboree has been raising millions of dollars to provide scholarships for hundreds of graduating Ridgewood High School seniors. The show is 100 percent voluntary, and over 120 parents and guardians of RHS students sing, dance, and act onstage or work as backstage heroes to put on this four-night show for the Village of Ridgewood and surrounding communities. Class of 1962 marks 50th Reunion Ridgewood High School Class of 1962 will hold its 50th Reunion on Sept. 28 and 29. Members of the Class of 1962 will kick off the weekend with a Meet and Greet at Rivara’s Restaurant, 6-18 River Road in Fair Lawn, on Friday, Sept. 28. The event will run from 7 to 10 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 29, classmates may tour Ridgewood High School at 10:30 a.m. followed by a noon lunch at The Fireplace on Route 17 in Paramus. The main event will take place Saturday at the Arcola Country Club in Paramus from 6 to 10 p.m. The weekend will culminate with a Sunday brunch at 11 a.m. at Arcola.
