Class of 1962 marks 50th Reunion Ridgewood High School Class of 1962 will hold its 50th Reunion on Sept. 28 and 29. Members of the Class of 1962 will kick off the weekend with a Meet and Greet at Rivara’s Restaurant, 6-18 River Road in Fair Lawn, on Friday, Sept. 28. The event will run from 7 to 10 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 29, classmates may tour Ridgewood High School at 10:30 a.m. followed by a noon lunch at The Fireplace on Route 17 in Paramus. The main event will take place Saturday at the Arcola Country Club in Paramus from 6 to 10 p.m. The weekend will culminate with a Sunday brunch at 11 a.m. at Arcola. All graduates are asked to send a 100-word biography and a current photo for the Reunion Guide to Nancy Rusk Hackman nthackman@verizon.net by Aug. 15. Tennis for Life aids breast cancer patients Tennis for Life, a support group offering free indoor tennis lessons to breast cancer survivors to rebuild stamina and morale, has joined Community Meals on Wheels in a pilot program to deliver free meals to breast cancer patients. The pre-cooked, frozen meals are available without cost to any Bergen County resident who has been treated for breast cancer in the last three months. Each recipient will get a box containing seven nutritious meals and an additional 10 meals for family members living at home. There is no income threshold to receive the meals, which will be delivered once a month. The program is funded by the Eisai, Inc. pharmaceutical company of Woodcliff Lake. The Bergen County program is one of two Eisai programs being run nationwide. The other is in Andover, Massachusetts. Tennis for Life, a non-profit operated by survivors for survivors, meets Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. at the Ridgewood Racquet Club, 249 Ackerman Avenue in Ridgewood. Gallery presents ‘Serenity’ in August During the month of August, Artist Lynn Early will
exhibit her latest pastel paintings at the Stable Art Gallery, 259 North Maple Avenue, in Ridgewood. Early’s works feature low horizon lines in order to emphasize the expanse of the sky. The artist is fond of the subtle freshness of both early morning and twilight, enjoys painting sky scenes, lightning, seascapes, and landscapes in a minimalist style. Miniature art and smaller works are part of her original collection, which features pieces in acrylics, pastels, and metallic paints. Viewing hours are weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or by appointment. Call (201) 670-5560. YWCA offers programs for all Registration for the YWCA Bergen County’s fall programs is under way. Classes will run from Sept. 4 through Oct. 27. New this session for adults are: Bollywood Hustle, a combination of belly dancing, traditional Indian dance, and jazz; Zumba Toning, a calorie-torching cardio class that takes dance workouts to the next level; cardio strength training, a boxing and boot camp that provides intense muscle and endurance building; and restorative yoga, a relaxing approach to fitness. New programs for children and teens include Mommy & Me Pilates for mothers and babies. Moms regain core strength as they pursue post-pregnancy fitness. Kids’ yoga, geared toward children age seven to 12, fosters self-esteem while enhancing flexibility and strength and improving concentration. Zumbatomic, for children age seven through 12, lets kids crank up the music and have a blast with their friends while boosting coordination, energy, and self confidence. Additional creativity and educational programs for children have been added on Saturdays, including a beginner book club, and programs in science and art. Afternoon kindergarteners are offered an enrichment program that helps develop pre-reading, pre-math, and socialization skills for five- and six-year-olds in a fun-filled environment. The YWCA offers dozens of other fitness, wellness, and enrichment programs for children, teens, adults, and seniors, and Red Cross certified swim classes for swimmers at every age and level. Before and After School Programs available Registration is now open for the YWCA of Bergen County’s Before and After School Programs for the 2012-13 school year. Programs for children in kindergarten through grade six combine guidance and security with activities designed to inspire creative thinking and individual expression. dale, Cresskill, Dumont, Old Tappan, Oradell, Ridgewood, and Westwood. After kindergarten care is available in Oradell and Ridgewood. All programs are licensed by the State of New Jersey, Department of Children & Families. Lifeguard Training offered The YWCA Bergen County will offer American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Sept. 11 through Oct. 18. Students will be required to take and pass a swim test that will be held on Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. and Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. Participants must be 15 years of age or older. A $10 swim test fee is due at registration. This course prepares students with the CPR, first aid, and lifeguard techniques necessary for employment as a professional lifeguard. Classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at 112 Oak Street in Ridgewood. The course fee is $350. YWCA Bergen County offers a variety of American Red Cross certified programs throughout the year. HILT schedules events Highlights in Leisure Time will visit Mount Airy Casino Resort in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania on Aug. 16. The cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. Ridgewood residents, age 55 and older, are invited to join Highlights in Leisure Time, a senior organization under the auspices of the Ridgewood Department of Parks & Recreation. Register for fall programs Registration for the Ridgewood YMCA’s upcoming fall session is under way. The nine-week session will begin Sept. 4 and continue through Nov. 4. The session will include parent-child classes, karate, tennis, soccer, basketball, and more. New this season is “Intro to Teen Strength and Weight Training,” a class for teens ages 13 through 18. Participants will learn proper weight lifting form, repetitions, stretching, and spotting. This class is ideal for boys and girls who want to start a strength training plan.
